So who am I?
I started my career in research in the area of Genetics when I was 22. I worked on various projects including one on fetal heart disease and others on various cancers. It was during this time that I found myself in need of Counselling. I had reached a point and I didn't know where to turn. Counselling was a breath of fresh air for me and it was after this that I truly realised how valuable counselling can be. I had decided I wanted to take my life in a different direction and so it was at this point I started my training.
I moved to Cumbria three years ago and after a few months of living here I discovered Eden Valley Hospice. I began volunteering at EVH as a bereavement counsellor in the family support team and have now been there for two and half years. I feel honoured to work there. I have worked with many different people in all stages of grief but also work with other issues such as anxiety, depression, low self esteem, exam and relationship stresses etc.
My aim is to work with you, the individual, on a one to one basis to provide a safe, confidential space where you feel that you can express yourself in any shape or form. It’s where you can truly open up and be yourself, not be ashamed or worried that you might be judged for what you say. I work as an electic counsellor which means I use various techniques and modalities to tailor your talking therapy to you and your needs.
Along with my main training I am continually updating my knowledge. Over the last year I have done further CPD (Continuous Professional Development) in bereavement in teenagers, PTSD and Postnatal depression. I intend to continue training as I feel it is important and valuable to my development as a counsellor.
