Today is Triple Negative Breast Cancer Day.

Triple negative breast cancer accounts for around 15% of all breast cancers. It tends to develop more often in women under the age of 40. It has a reputation for being more aggressive and has a higher recurrence rate than other types of breast cancer.

Triple negative breast cancer cells don't express oestrogen receptors (ER), progesterone receptors (PR) or human epidermal growth factor receptor 2 (HER2). This means there are less treatment options available as targeted treatments will not be effective.

Treatment options tend to be aggressive chemotherapy, radiotherapy and surgery. Immunotherapy may also be an option.

Signs of triple negative breast cancer tend to be similar to other types of breast cancer:

➡ a lump or swelling in the breast of armpit
➡ changes in the size or shape of your breast
➡ skin changes such as dimpling, redness, puckering or a rash
➡ discharge from the ni**le or inverted ni**les

Please, please, please make sure you check yourself regularly and if something doesn't feel right then get it checked as soon as you can. Chances are it will be fine, but if it is cancer, the earlier it is diagnosed, the better the outcome ❤️
