As any true genealogist knows, no trip is complete without randomly discovering new cousins, visits to family churches and searching around the odd graveyard 😄😝

The perk of finding long lost family is taking trips to amazing places like this to meet them! 🌏🌎🌍

First steps in finding long lost family:

▶️ Get as much information as possible together in terms of names, dates and places.
▶️ Do an Ancestry DNA test as soon as possible.
▶️ Note down any family stories/hints you've heard over the years- there's often a grain of truth to be found.
▶️ Prepare yourself for all eventualities - counselling is recommended before starting a search.
▶️ Contact a family search genealogist like me, for free search help and DNA advice.

Finding new, if unexpected, family can eventually result in positive and life affirming outcomes- with access to the right support.

DNA can often throw up unexpected results. DNA testing can uncover a 'Non-Parental Event' or 'Not Parent Expected' (NPE). As well as working with mediators like me, there are support groups who can guide you through this time.
