Injury recovery can be one of the hardest things to get through - particularly if fitness and exercise plays an important role in life.
Emotionally, one can experience fear, self-sabotage, limiting beliefs, a major drop in self-confidence and demotivation from an injury.
Physically, one can experience pain, discomfort, minor muscular atrophy, change in appetite, a notable change in strength or range of motion.
This was me getting on a spin bike 1/2 way into what became a 3 month recovery and recuperation period back in July, thanks to my friend who got me an guest pass!
Patience is really key during rehabilitation periods, as is doing what is best for the body. This is where self-knowledge about one's own body along with basic nutritional and physiological education can be of great help. Being patient with oneself can help offset sadness, anxiety, irritability, anger and frustration surfacing as a result of an injury. Stress the body where it can and needs to be stressed (for the human body is created to handle acute stress well, provided there are no major heart and lung conditions to work around). Rest the body where it can and needs to be rested. Rest is two S's short of stress. Play between the two.
Love,
Claz.
