Larval Therapy increases SKIN GRAFT SUCCESS โžก ๐Ÿ” Nishijima A, 2017

A research paper by Nishijima, published in 2017, discusses how Larval Therapy Is able to provide favourable wound bed preparation for skin grafting.

In the cases outlined, skin grafts are successfully taken, following just one or two rounds of Larval Therapy treatment. Prior to grafting, surface necrosis was diminished and granulation formation noted.

Did you know that we are one of the only suppliers in the world to offer bagged larvae, as opposed to larvae that is applied loose onto the wound.

We thought that we would share 5 simple benefits, of using bagged larvae as your debridement tool:

1. Fuss-free application, that takes less than 5 minutes of your time.
2. Patients are more accepting of bagged larvae, compared to loose.
3. Larvae are safely contained for the duration of treatment.
5. Debridement takes place through the bag, meaning larvae are never in direct contact with the wound bed.

Up to 98% PROBABILITY OF DEBRIDEMENT with Larval Therapy โžก๐Ÿ” Campbell N, 2014

A study conducted by N Campbell in 2014 states, "Efficient debridement provides an opportunity to reduce the cost of care by reducing treatment time. The current study found the wounds of 67 of 68 patients (98.5%) were 90% debrided within 1 week, and the cost of nursing visits was 67% less the week following debridement."

This highlights how efficient debridement with Larval Therapy not only benefits patients, but can also have a significant impact on cost-effectiveness for both acute and community wound care practices.

If a wound is not moving through the stages of healing normally, Larval Therapy may be able to help.

BioBagยฎ is a biosurgical wound dressing containing aseptically produced living larvae of the greenbottle fly ๐˜“๐˜ถ๐˜ค๐˜ช๐˜ญ๐˜ช๐˜ข ๐˜ด๐˜ฆ๐˜ณ๐˜ช๐˜ค๐˜ข๐˜ต๐˜ข. The larvae remove devitalised tissue and bacterial burden from wounds, this process is often an essential step before wound healing can occur.

The effective use of Larval Therapy for wound debridement has been widely reported in published literature for the treatment of many types of chronic or non-healing wounds such as:

โœ… Diabetic ulcers
โœ… Pressure ulcers
โœ… Dehisced or non-healing surgical wounds
โœ… Haematoma
โœ… Venous, arterial, and mixed aetiology leg ulcers
โœ… Burns
โœ… Necrotising fasciitis
โœ… Pyoderma gangrenosum

Larval Therapy can contribute to a REDUCTION IN THE USE OF ANTIBIOTICS ๐Ÿ’Š ๐Ÿ” Tian X, 2013

A meta-analysis conducted by Tian in 2013, observed differences in patient groups when treated with Larval Therapy (referred to as Maggot Debridement Therapy or MDT) compared to standard care for diabetic foot ulcers.

The results of the study suggested that the group was significantly superior to the control group in the number of antibiotic-free days.

At the time of writing, the author explains how Larval Therapy re-emerged, due to the rise in chronic wounds and the emergence of antibiotic resistant strains of bacteria, such as meticillin-resistant Staphylococcus aureus (MRSA).
