It’s one of the most exciting nights of the year – but Bonfire Night isn’t for everyone. We all know that our furry friends prefer to be indoors to avoid the fireworks, but there are plenty of young children who are put off by the loud noises too- It’s a common fear for children.

Happy Halloween! We hope you have a safe and spooktacular time.

If you’re trick or treating tonight please remember:

🎃 Halloween costumes can be highly flammable. Try to keep little ones as far away from naked flames as possible. Even better, use LED candles, glow sticks or torches to light up your pumpkins instead.
🎃Help make children more visible to drivers by adding reflective tape to their costumes or accessorising with glow sticks.
🎃 Masks are spooktacular but they can make it harder for children to see or hear traffic. So, consider using face paint for trick or treating and save the masks for indoors.
🎃 Watch out for treats that might be a choking hazard for young children, like hard sweets, lollipops or mini-eggs. It’s best to avoid eating while walking or running, so you may want to save up all the treats to enjoy back at home.

Despite annual safety warnings, firework celebrations still end in painful injuries for too many people, including very young children.

Yet fireworks can be great fun for families, not just around November 5 (Bonfire Night/Guy Fawkes Night), but also Diwali, New Year’s Eve and Chinese New Year.

Injury figures support the advice that the safest place to enjoy fireworks is at a large public display - far fewer people are injured here than at smaller family or private parties.

But if you’ll be having a firework party at home, you can make the occasion fun and safe for everyone by following the Firework Code, as well as some sparkler and bonfire safety tips.
