Su***de is preventable......
Many people think that a su***de attempt is a selfish act because the person just does not care about the people left behind . We can tell you that when a person gets to that point , they truly believe that their loved ones will be much better off without them.
Mental ill health can still be a source of embarrassment and shame for everyone, irrespective of their gender identity. However, men are more likely to avoid seeking help until they have reached crisis point.
Sadly, the narrative still exists that real men are strong and invulnerable. The damaging impact of a culture that expects us to ‘man up’ can prevent men from speaking up and seeking help. This is perhaps more noticeable when you look at the facts about men and su***de.
Su***de is the biggest killer of men under the age of 45.
Let’s start talking
If talking isn’t something that comes naturally to you , take a deep breath and take a moment to think about the language you might use to start a conversation. Once one person starts talking about mental health and wellbeing, our experience is that lots of people want to talk.
We all have mental health just as we have physical health and talking helps to reduce the stigma.
The most important thing to remember is that YOU ARE IMPORTANT and YOU ARE LOVED.
You have an opportunity to think differently about your life.
One thing we have discovered within the groups is this, you do have a choice.
It will be the toughest battle of your life but circumstances do change and life does improve and you can live a happy life alongside suffering with a mental illness, that’s the choice.
Let’s talk about it, not just today, but everyday.
