A.J.Wakely & Sons is a family-run business that has been providing an independent funeral director service to the bereaved since 1897. For four generations the Wakely family has had a strong presence in the local community and has provided a personal, sensitive and caring service upon which our company's reputation has steadily grown. The A.J.Wakely & Sons funeral directors head office is located in Bridport, Dorset and we also have branches in Beaminster, Chard, Crewkerne, Ilminster, Lyme Regis, Sherborne, Wincanton and Yeovil. The staff at each of our offices are familiar with the community resources in their specific area and we would encourage you to make the most of their local knowledge and expertise. We strictly adhere to industry codes of practice and are a member of the National Association of Funeral Directors, The Society of Allied and Independent Funeral Directors and British Institute of Embalmers. Members of our experienced and dedicated staff are available during working hours to answer questions as well as to support and assist our clients through a sad and often overwhelming process. A manager or director is also available after hours, which means we offer a service that is accessible 24 hours a day, 365 days a year. Last month, our team at AJ Wakely & Sons had the honour of helping a family create a wonderfully personal tribute for their loved one, a devoted train enthusiast whose life was celebrated in the most fitting way.

The service took place at the beautifully restored Station Kitchen in West Bay, Dorset.

It was a truly unique farewell, a reminder that a funeral can be a deeply personal celebration, shaped around what made someone special.

We were delighted to receive an update from Emily, who recently returned from Kenya after a fantastic 4-week trip that A.J. Wakely & Sons were proud to help sponsor.

During her time in Kenya, Emily worked on several incredible projects – from building a house for a widow and her daughter, repairing school classrooms, and supporting local wildlife conservation efforts, including building lion and elephant deterrent structures and deworming 94 goats! 🦁🐘

Emily shared that the experience gave her new confidence and leadership skills, and she was moved by the gratitude of the local community.

We are so proud to have supported Emily in this amazing opportunity and loved seeing the photos of her wearing her sponsored T-shirt during her time in Kenya.
