Some things are meant to come back home.

This 1971 Morris Oxford hearse was originally bought by the Downing family and at some point, as many vehicles are, it was sold on.

Then one day whilst looking through Facebook, their exact vehicle popped up for sale!

Most old hearses get scrapped.

The ones that survive often
end up on banger racing circuits. The dimensions make
them oddly well-suited for it. This one was heading that
way.

Will and his father, Stephen decided they couldn’t let that
happen. So they bought it back.

It now sits in J.T. Brookes & Co brand new solar-powered
garage in Brierley Hill, alongside a fleet of modern plug-in
hybrid Mercedes hearses.

We couldn't be more proud here at J.T. Brookes & Co we have completed the first phase of a major renovation.

A brand new, purpose-built garage now houses our modern fleet of plug-in hybrid Mercedes hearses and limousines, including a 1971 Morris Oxford, bought new by our Chairman, Stephen Downing back in the day!

The building runs on solar panels, helping us work towards a greener future for our community.

Officially opened by the President of SAIF, Ross Hickton.

Four generations. One commitment. To do things properly.

And for us at J T Brookes that doesn’t sit comfortably.

This is a profession built on trust, responsibility and care, often at the most difficult moments in someone’s life. We believe families deserve clarity, reassurance and confidence in the people guiding them.

That’s why Will has chosen to undertake the Diploma in Funeral Directing, starting this March, an optional qualification that brings additional structure, regulation and professional standards to an industry where they are not currently required.

It’s not something we’re asked to do.
It’s something we believe is right.

Professional development isn’t about letters after a name.
It’s about peace of mind, accountability and continuing to raise standards for the families we serve.

The Kindness Check In Checklist

When someone you care about is grieving 🕊️

◯ Remember the dates.
Anniversaries, birthdays, milestones. A simple message that acknowledges the day can mean more than you realise.

◯ Keep it low-key.
A quiet “thinking of you” is enough. Adding “no need to reply” removes pressure.

◯ Don’t make them decide.
Thinking is exhausting.
Try: “I’ll pop round with a coffee at 11” rather than “let me know if you need anything.”

◯ Share the memories.
A funny story. A small moment. A detail only you’d remember.
It helps keep love present, not painful.

◯ Be consistent, not perfect.

Support isn’t about the right words.
It’s about showing up again and again 🤍

We’re often asked whether funerals can take place at the weekend.

In some cases, yes, a small number of crematoria do offer weekend services, usually with an additional fee.

However, local council-run crematoria such as Gornal and Stourbridge are closed at weekends.

For most families, there is plenty of availability during the week and this is why weekday services remain the most common choice.

Our role is to explain the options clearly, answer questions honestly and help you choose what feels right, without pressure.
