We recently took our mobile FEES clinic on the road to Manchester to support a complex neurogenic dysphagia case — and this is exactly why flexible, patient-centred services matter.
By assessing the patient in his own environment, with familiar foods (including homemade samosas), we were able to gain a far more accurate and functional picture of his swallow. He tolerated the endoscope for 30 minutes, allowing for a detailed and dynamic assessment that simply wouldn’t have been possible in a more restricted setting.
This individual has already made significant progress with targeted therapy (AMPCARE and MDTP) — moving from nil by mouth to a Level 6 diet with teaspoons of thin fluids. This latest study has helped us identify ongoing impairments and refine targeted therapy goals to support further recovery.
Importantly, we also identified previously undiagnosed potential vocal fold nodules — highlighting how instrumental assessment can have wider clinical impact beyond swallowing alone.
Mobile FEES isn’t just about convenience — it’s about delivering the right assessment, in the right place, at the right time.
