Being alongside, connecting, knowing and sharing friendship and support with others who have similar life experiences can be transformational, and this is what we celebrate providing at Lunch Positive. Life with HIV can still be isolating and feel lonely, so every week of the year we bring people together, part of a supportive community, creating community spaces that welcome and include everyone living with HIV. This year there will have been over 4,000 visits to us! Our members reach out to connect and support others living with HIV as part of a kind and caring community, and our amazing volunteers dedicate themselves to listening and talking with people, empathising, helping people settle in and be part of all that's on offer. It's a wonderful thing to experience so much friendship, fellowship and shared support

Reflecting on and celebrating the achievements and impact of Lunch Positive during 2025, we send our heartfelt thanks to everyone who supports us, fundraises, volunteers & helps, and our members. Lunch Positive is proudly a grassroots charity making a true impact on the lives of people living with HIV. Here in our first reflection of 2025 we celebrate the constant support provided by us every week of the year through our community based groups, all offering a wide range of help and support. These take place in five towns across Sussex! Our group services are described by members as "lifelines", "family" and "life-changing", and all are provided by an amazing team of volunteers.

On Christmas Day nine years ago, we lost an icon and a great friend to people living with HIV.

George Michael experienced first-hand the impact of HIV. In 1991, he met his partner Anselmo Feleppa, who he called "the first love of my entire life". But within six months of them meeting, he knew that Anselmo was dying of an AIDS-related illness.

Anselmo died in 1993, just two years after they first locked eyes across a hotel lobby and fell head-over-heels for each other.

George turned his grief into art, making his 1996 album Older in Anselmo's memory. He described it in 2007 as his best album, but that he "never wanted to feel that inspired again... feel that depth of emotion again."

He also worked to improve the lives of all people living with HIV. Along with other HIV charities, we were grateful to benefit from the royalties of George's duet with Elton John, Don't Let the Sun Go Down On Me.

His donations contributed to decades of work to support people living with HIV, to fight stigma and to end new HIV cases.

And his legacy lives on in the many incredible George Michael fans who continue to support and champion our work.

Happy Christmas from all of us at Terrence Higgins Trust. And thank you, George. The sun will never go down on you.

We encourage people to test for HIV in ways that work for them, increasing testing in NHS settings and focussing innovations on reaching people with undiagnosed HIV using health care.

Having recently mentioned our chef Ian in a number of social media posts, regarding his appearance in the popular new film Pillion, he swapped his leather apron for his chef apron once again this week, for two very festive occasions. 🏍️🎄

Much to the gastronomic pleasure of everyone attending, Ian prepared a considerable number of magnificent Christmas lunches during the week at The Sussex Beacon. He was very kindly and wonderfully assisted by Tasha, our Head Housekeeper/Facilities Co-ordinator and Jackie, Deputy Clinical Services Manager, proving just how important team work really can be. 🌟

Our thanks also to The Block & Gasket in Burgess Hill, for very generously donating a huge supply of plates, serving platters, Santa hats and various other pieces of glass/crockery for us to use at the Beacon and/or sell in our charity shops. 🙏

Our thanks to everyone involved in making these two events such a great success! 💖
