Our Story
Brighton-based charity Amaze runs Compass Card Brighton & Hove and Compass Card West Sussex on behalf of Brighton & Hove City Council and West Sussex County Council. The Compass Card in Brighton & Hove was launched in 2003 and is a national model of best practice. The card in West Sussex was launched in April 2016. The initiative helps make leisure more welcoming and more affordable for 0-25s with additional needs living or going to school in the area.
To be eligible for a Compass Card, children or young people need to be 0-25 years old (membership expires on 25th birthday); and have a disability or special educational need that has a big effect on daily living (usually that means they’ll be eligible for DLA or PIP and/or have an EHC Plan or moving on plan). They’ll also need to be living or going to school in Brighton & Hove or West Sussex, or being ‘looked after’ by social services there.
Amaze also manages Brighton & Hove City Council and West Sussex County Council’s ‘disability registers’ for 0-25s. It’s joining the register (‘The Compass’) that entitles children and young people with significant additional needs to Compass Card Brighton & Hove or Compass Card West Sussex. All data is subject to strict Data Protection legislation.
