In Classical Pilates, the arms don’t work in isolation, they connect deeply into the back. Every reach, press, and pull begins from the powerhouse, with the shoulders and back muscles supporting the movement.

When you press your arms down on the Mat, or pull the straps on the Reformer, you’re not just “working the arms”, you’re working the whole upper body and using the connection of your arms all the way down into the back of the hips. This connection builds strength, stability, and balance, while protecting from over working the shoulders and also helps improve posture.

That’s the beauty of Classical Pilates: nothing moves alone, everything works in harmony and always from your centre.
