Now, I think the only reason you need to come for a massage is that you want one, but in case you’re in need of a few more, take a look at what one of my super lovely regulars has to say…

“I am always looking for a reason to have a massage by Nicky.

I suffer with neck and head pain and Nicky understands the source of the issue and then gets to work with the magic hands.

Sometimes I go for no other reason than to lay down on the lovely warm bed and fall asleep, so I whole heartedly recommend Nicky’s fabulous talents. She listens, she understands and then she gets to work.

I can often get headaches that last for up to a week,so I book myself in with Nicky and I know I will not only come away with the issue addressed, but I sleep so well after too.

Treat yourself, and if there is nothing troubling you just go for the super relaxing massage. You won’t regret it! Thank you Nicky”

October has been busy… there’s just a few slots left. You can book here or via the link in my bio https://www.mandalamassagebrighton.com/

Is it really October… I can hardly believe it, where has this year gone!

Whilst I love this time of year, the air has a special quality to it, I literally can feel the season changing… it is the time of year for colds and coughs, so what to do if you’ve booked in with me for a massage and you’re feeling under the weather?

It’s normal to get a cold at this time of year and it can actually be a good ‘clear out’ for your system. Pretty much all of us are going to have one at some point!

Whilst I ask you to get in touch with me to let me know you have a cold, I’m happy to treat you and will wear a mask to protect myself and reduce the risk of me passing anything on to others. If I have a more vulnerable person booked in after you, I may alter timings slightly so I really appreciate knowing in advance of you coming.

The main thing is that you are comfortable on my massage table, I can treat you entirely in a sidelying and supine (face up) position if you feel you may be congested lying face down. If you’ve had a treatment with me before, most likely you’ve experienced some of this work already and will know you don’t need to be lying on your front to have a really great massage!

You may find having a treatment when you have a cold makes it pass more quickly than it might otherwise, however, your symptoms may be worse in the day following your massage so you may wish to consider this depending on what you are doing and whether or not you are able to rest a little.

And finally… if you decide you do wish to reschedule or cancel your massage please ensure you do so outside of the 24 hour window to avoid being charged for your appointment.

With the potential for so much change at this time of year, my cancellation policy is in place to ensure fairness for all... myself included.

Thanks in advance for your understanding 😊🙏🩷

“Surround yourself with those who lift you higher”

I am loving my new TOTO role at ❤️

Now, if you’re an 80’s fan like me, you might be thinking of the songs Africa and, even better, Rosanna… but it’s not about that!

TOTO stands for ‘teaching one to one’ and it means being part of the teaching team at Jing, supporting the main teachers and the many students on the Advanced Clinical Massage Therapist course and TMJ Massage course, and perhaps a few others too 😉

The role includes guiding students with their technique and body mechanics whilst they are practicing on each other during their classes, as well as encouraging confidence in what they are learning, and helping them think about how they can integrate their new skills into their existing massage practices, and sometimes how they can make the leap from a career they might currently be in to a new one in massage.

It’s an exciting role and something I’m delighted to be part of. Jing has given me so much… a successful business in advanced clinical massage and TMJ therapy, plus the support and encouragement of our amazing massage community here in Brighton and beyond, and I am super happy to be able to give back in the way.

It does make for a busy schedule, so if you need a massage appointment, then I encourage you to book soon!

Forever grateful 😊🙏🏼❤️

I love September. Especially on sunny days with skies like this.

How are we already so close to the end of the month though, and how do I only have 4 appointments left!

I’ve been busy, spending some extra time at (more on the this to come 😉), taking a much needed break in our favourite place with , spending less time on social media, and I have some other exciting news which I’ll share in due course, but still… the time has flown!

And how about you, how has it been?

Busy?

Then you should nab one of my remaining slots here https://www.mandalamassagebrighton.com/ I would love to see you!

“The only time my mind is actually quiet is when I’m having my massage with you, it’s better than sleep”

Said my lovely regular last week. She has adhd so values this respite during her time on my massage table so very greatly.

Many of the people coming to me for treatment are neurodivergent, and if you are too, I want you to know that you are most welcome.

When you book in with me online, you’ll get the opportunity to tell me if there is anything I can do to make your experience with me a great one. I’m completely happy to be mindful about scent and lighting, to be super clear with my communication during the consultation part of the treatment if this is helpful, to prompt with my words and touch what I am about to do next during treatment, and to rest warm stones on your lower back and tummy if weight helps you settle and relax, just like a weighted blanket.

My background, working with SEND children and their families, means conditions such as autism and adhd are not new to me, although I fully acknowledge everyone is different of course, hence offering up the opportunity for you to tell me exactly what works for YOU.

It’s also why I offer concessionary rates of up to £25 off advanced clinical massage treatment for parent carers of SEND children who are Compass Card holders and/or receive DLA or PIP.

You can find out more about all of this on my website https://www.mandalamassagebrighton.com/

I post for Pride each year and each year I ask myself whether I should… after all, I’m a cis female in a heterosexual marriage and this is my business page. I’m aware of how it may seem… or am I overthinking it?

Once again I’ve decided to post. Whilst I will never understand what it may feel like to wonder whether it’s safe for me to hold the hand of the person I love in public, I want to use each and every opportunity to make it explicitly and abundantly clear that each and every body is welcome on my massage table. So long as they uphold the same values of love and acceptance that is.

Surely I don’t need to go on about this, we live in Brighton the gay capital of the UK, yet sadly I think I do.

And whilst this is a shout out to everyone attending the Pride event here this weekend, proudly holding hands with and kissing the ones they love, it’s also a shout out to the quieter voices, and to those who aren’t attending, who feel they cannot, for whatever reason this may be.

You are seen and welcome too.

With love 🩷

Let’s talk sciatica…

Which is actually the name of a set of symptoms rather than an actual condition.

Symptoms of sciatica can include numbness, tingling, weakness, and referred pain. You’ll most likely feel this in your glutes, down the back and side of your leg, and sometimes even as far as your foot.

I get asked quite a bit if I treat sciatica, people do tend to think of it as condition rather than a set of symptoms, and whether what I do helps.

The short answer is yes to both of these questions, however, it’s important to understand what might be causing the sciatica in order to have a realistic perspective on how long it can take to see results. It’s important for me to know as the therapist, so I can deliver an appropriate treatment, and it’s important for the client to know, so they aren’t disappointed if progress takes longer than they might like.

Sciatica occurs when the sciatic nerve is compressed, which can happen for a couple of reasons… a herniated/slipped disc pressing on the sciatic nerve and piriformis syndrome which is the name used when the piriformis becomes inflamed thus compressing the sciatic nerve.

Another reason can be trigger points in the gluteal muscles, usually glute minimus.

These conditions all have very similar symptoms but different timeframes for recovery and all require a slightly different approach, including the advice given for self-care between clinical massage sessions.

It’s not always straightforward but it is always interesting, which is why I love what I do ❤️

‘Punctuality is the politeness of kings’

I love this expression, shared with me by one of my lovely regulars yesterday. They were late for their appointment last time, and apologised again for it, despite it being no fault of their own as they were waiting on a cab… booked ahead in good time but running very late!

It was on point though as this week I’ve had a few very early arrivals, which are actually more of a problem for me than people running late. Working from home means there isn’t a waiting area and in the short time between appointments I have to refresh the room and set up for the next person, complete my notes, have a quick drink, respond to texts and emails, attend to little Chica, and sometimes eat my lunch as well. Time is tight! 😅

I enjoy learning where expressions are thought to come from and think this one is really cool!

‘Kings (especially before the [French] revolution) didn’t need to be punctual. They could show up when they wanted. Afterall, people would wait for them. But [King Louis XVIII of France, to whom the quote is often attributed] suggests that one way a king can show respect for other people is to meet them at the appointed time’

The photo is my beautiful niece Tobechi, dressed as the Red Queen for World Book Day some years back and taken by my photographer sister. I don’t have any nephews and I’m assuming the expression would apply to queens too!

And the takeaway from this post… a polite reminder to be on time wherever possible, if you’re early you can take a stroll around the block in the sunshine 😎🙏🏼🩷

I love being as happy to get back to my work as an and as I do taking a break from it.

Yes, even when it’s as hot as it’s been this week. Although, I think the 30 - 35 degree daily temperature in Croatia made that a little easier to manage 😜

It’s been really great to see my regulars and a few new people already this week. So far I’ve treated…

⚡️2 clicky, painful jaws
⚡️1 calf injury (all ready for Love Supreme now 😅)
⚡️Sciatica
⚡️Chronic migraine
⚡️Cervical dystonia
⚡️Fibromyalgia and CFS

I had a very pregnant regular booked in but she cancelled due to going into labour… how very exciting!

You can swipe through to see a few photos from holiday, we really loved Croatia and appreciated how easy it was to find healthy vegan options too 💚

If you’d like to come for a treatment, either for maintenance, pain, or relaxation, then I encourage you to book asap. More than half my slots for this month are already taken 🙏🏼

You can nab yours here https://www.mandalamassagebrighton.com/onlinebooking or via the in my bio.

And if it’s been a while, then I’d especially love to see you!

Resetting in nature 💚

Just what I needed on Wednesday after a super awesome, and very busy, start to the week!

I’ve been thinking a lot recently about the nervous system and what it means to fill your cup and also to not let it overflow and how for me there is a sweet spot, not too empty and not too full. A bit like Goldilocks with the porridge!

I think this is true for most of us actually and I love supporting the people who come to me to for and treatments to become more aware of this.

Revved up nervous systems make pain worse and pain takes us further into fight and flight mode. We need to take a proactive and systemic approach to our wellbeing.

Getting out in nature and away from our screens, even for just a short time, is so very good for us.

Next time you’re feeling overstimulated give it a try… you’ll feel so much better for it, I promise 💚

May was a busy month for me… and I didn’t get around to sharing much on here so here are some of the highlights 🤩

June looks set to be a good month too… I’m supporting quite a bit. At the stand and workshops for the next Saturday, Table Thai 1 day massage course on Monday and the Open Evening on Tuesday. With all of this going on, plus a busy week of and treatments, I’m beyond delighted that Wednesday is a moon day and a lie in for me. There is no on full moon and new moon 🙌🏼

And I almost forgot… I am away 19 - 30 June, so my availability is less this month. If you want to come for treatment then I encourage you to book asap. You can do so here https://www.mandalamassagebrighton.com/
or via the link in my bio.

I’d love to see you! 😎
