Gisèle Pélicot’s story is horrifying. What we are hearing in this case serves as a stark reminder of the simple, but often disregarded components of consent.

Consent is; Freely given, Reversable, Informed, Enthusiastic and Specific (FRIES) — anything less is a violation.

Gisèle's capacity to consent was taken away from her, no less by someone she trusted. If someone is unconscious they cannot consent. No one else has the right to give consent on your behalf, even a partner or parent.

We stand in solidarity with Gisèle and all survivors of sexual violence.
