Emotions are not separate from you or your body, occasionally it can feel like they are out of control and all your usual strategies aren’t helping. Or maybe your coping mechanisms are making things worse for you or your family.
Emotional overwhelm is uncomfortable, mood swings might get too big for your day to day functioning. So you cancel social engagements or decline visitors. Your strategy of isolation is based on an instinct to keep your self safe, but it might make you feel worse. Friends may stop inviting you after a while and the isolation or sense of being misjudged is difficult for anyone to deal with.
Emotional health is just as important as physical health and yet people who cry, show anxiety and fear or express their psychological difficulties are still stigmatised and it is a brave thing to do, to ask for help.
The resources out there are scarce and oversubscribed in many areas of the UK, so many people make the decision to speak to a therapist or psychologist.
