NEW CLASS IN BRAY 🌼

I am so excited to share that I will be guiding a weekly yoga class in the beautiful Macha Yoga in Bray!

Join me every Tuesday morning from 10-11am for a Yin & Yang practice.

Yin combines the breath with poses held for around 3-5 minutes. We begin the practice with Yin when the body is cold, relaxing into each pose to target the connective tissues beyond the muscles. This supports the health of our joints, flexibility, mobility, encourages relaxation, and connects us to our feminine energy.

Yang is the dynamic part of the practice, where we flow through poses with awareness of the breath and body. We build some heat, gain strength and connect to our masculine energy.

Yin and Yang energies are complementary qualities within us all - intuition and ease balanced with action and focus.

Your Yin & Yang practice is a space to explore both, supporting you to regulate with greater ease and show up in life as your best self!
I look forward to seeing you there. 🌼

Yin Yoga is a powerful practice for pregnancy! 🤰🏻

Let's break down each of the 5 ways Yin Yoga can support you in pregnancy and birth..

1. Mobility - Holding poses longer and relaxing the muscles allows the effects to reach the connective tissues instead. We can reach more fluid mobility by getting into the fascia, ligaments and tendons. Perfect for pregnancy when you're feeling tight or tense in certain areas, and allows you to move more freely during labour and birth! 🤸🏾‍♀️

2. Calming effect - 'Yin' (as opposed to 'Yang') is the more cooling, calming, lunar/feminine side of the body. As you breathe deeply and slowly, holding poses longer than you usually would, your parasympathetic nervous system ('rest and digest') becomes activated, and your body and mind slip into a more restful state. This has a direct effect on your baby allowing them to be in a relaxed state too! 👼🏼

3. Meridian stimulation - In Traditional Chinese Medicine, the meridians are the pathways or channels which energy ('qi') flows through. Simply put, we have certain pressure points on the body which are believed in TCM to connect to certain organs. Yin Yoga stimulates certain meridians contributing to overall health and vitality of your organs. In pregnancy and postpartum, your organs are changing size, position and their functions may alter too, so Yin Yoga is great to support these changes! 🫁

4. Meditation & mindfulness - As well as feeling more relaxed, these practices give you space to reflect and connect with your own inner world. Your fears, worries, recurring thoughts about pregnancy, birth and new motherhood. Acknowledging these thoughts and allowing them space to be, whilst also contemplating on them (getting to the "roots") can be a useful tool when it comes to navigating any new challenges to come. 🤯

5. Time and space to explore - In Yin Yoga, we hold poses for a few minutes. This gives you more time and space to find what feels good in your body. Do you need to adjust? Do you need extra support, or a different variation? Getting to know what works for you and your baby helps to connect you to your own maternal instincts and intuition - empowered and in control! 💥

Simple Relaxing Breath

Do you ever catch yourself feeling tense after rushing around or when you're working hard? Your chest feels tight, your breath barely reaching your throat, and you notice your mind is agitated.

This super simple breath is PERFECT for those moments.

During busy or stressful times at work, I often notice I am barely breathing. When I catch myself like this, I take 30 seconds to step outside or go to the bathroom and practice this breath!

Taking even just a short amount of time to focus on deepening your breath can be extremely effective! It allows your nervous system to relax, release and reset.

Inhaling through the base of your body up to your throat.
Exhaling from the throat out through the base.
Continue for as long as you feel, lengthening each breath, especially the exhale.

The circular way of breathing helps to entrance the mind, and allows us to take back control of our bodies in times where we feel like the body has control over us!

Breathing out through the base of the body helps us to feel grounded and rooted.

This breath is wonderful during pregnancy in keeping with the grounding and downward flow of energy!

Try it here with me now, and then again in your own time.

Feel the effects of this simple yet transformative practice for yourself.

I would love to hear how you get on. 🤎

All my love,
Cat xo
