No parent gets it right all the time.

Whether it’s the school run, mealtimes, homework there is often sticky part of the day. And that’s OK.

At the Parenting with Anxiety project we are focused on supporting families. We want to help parents develop skills to help them in those tricky times.

If you experience anxiety you can help to test an online course designed for parents who want to boost the confidence of their children.

As a parent it doesn’t always feel comfortable asking for help. But needing support isn’t a sign of failure.

We all need help sometimes. By leaning on each other we can all do so much better.

The Parenting with Anxiety Project is focused on developing support to help families.

If you are a parent who experiences anxiety with a child aged 2-11 you can take part in a national research study and help test a free online course. It brings together the latest evidence, techniques and strategies to help parents and children thrive.

The Project and Professor Sam Cartwright-Hatton featured on the excellent dadbloguk this week. We are so grateful to John for inviting us on and giving us an opportunity to share our work.

As John describes:
I’m sure we all known individuals who are parenting with anxiety. I can think of numerous people who are living with anxiety while also raising children, some with a diagnosed condition, others who haven’t sought help. What was once called “nerves” and swept under the carpet is spoken about more freely and a greater range of help and support is available. This includes a a new, online course developed by a team from the University of Sussex and dads and mums are encouraged to participate (particular emphasis on dads. Why? Well read on!

When our children are upset it can feel like we need to solve the problem for them.

Sometimes what they need is for us to sit alongside them and allow them to feel sad or angry or frustrated.

The parenting with anxiety course was develop to help parents learn approaches to support their children. We are now testing it in a national research study --> www.parentingwithanxiety.org.uk

By getting involved you are making a difference for parents and children who experience anxiety.

School holiday can be a juggling act

We are really pleased that parents are still joining our study during the school holidays. But we know there is a lot to juggle when the children are off. There can also be a lot of uncertainty with the change in routine.

If you are interested in taking part but don't feel able to right now we will still have places for parents once the schools go back.

In the meantime you can find out more at our website

We all want our children to thrive but parenting with anxiety can be a challenge. The world does not always seem like a safe place. However, there is evidence that, with the right support, anxious parents can develop new ways to help their children take flight.
