👣 Brighton Podiatry Placements: Shaping Skills, Leadership, and Community Impact 👣

Placements are an essential part of podiatric education , helping students develop clinical skills and critical thinking. But at Brighton, podiatry is about so much more.

Our students have the chance to explore diverse placements, including:
- International experiences abroad
- Educational and leadership placements

✨ Our students on educational placements have been working hard making a real impact:

- Delivering a community presentation on diabetic foot health, answering questions with confidence.
- Producing study materials for their peers, including guides on vascular assessments.
- Supporting teaching and creating resources including videos demonstrating common musculoskeletal assessments used in podiatry.

These experiences showcase the breadth of podiatry beyond clinical practice , building skills in education, leadership, and community engagement.

We are proud of their dedication and the difference they are making both inside and outside the clinic. 💡👣

What a week we had! 🎉

You would think we would be winding down by now, but we’re still going full speed!! 🏃

This week we were truly fortunate to welcome outstanding experts who shared their knowledge with our students:

- 👟 David Gruhl, expert sports podiatrist, kicked off the week with a hands-on practical session on orthotic modification.

- 🏛️ On the same day, Iain Spink, Professional Liaison Consultant from the HCPC, gave our students valuable insights into the HCPC and its role in professional practice.

- 🩺 And on Wednesday, we had the privilege of hosting Professor Mark Tagoe, renowned in podiatric surgery, who delivered some fascinating lectures on the surgical treatment of common podiatric conditions.

It’s been an inspiring week of learning, and we’re grateful to all our guest speakers for enriching our students’ journey. 🙏🚀

We were delighted to welcome David Gruhl, expert in Sports Podiatry, to the University of Brighton Podiatry programme yesterday.

His session on orthotic manufacture and prescription was packed with practical application and hands-on learning. The students thoroughly enjoyed the experience and came away inspired!💪

A huge thank you to David for sharing his expertise and making the session such a success 👏 And special thanks to Professor Nat Padhiar and the Podiatric Sports Medicine Specialist Advisory Group for facilitating this opportunity. 👍

Today is the day! Another brilliant group of students are heading out on their first placements, and no, it's not Groundhog Day! 🎉

This time it's our BSc (Year 1) students stepping into clinic for the very first time. Since joining us just under two months ago, they have been working incredibly hard to build their podiatry practical skills, successfully completing their diabetic foot assessments 👣, and tackling last week's simulation days that put their communication, clinical reasoning, and hands-on skills to the test, ready for clinic! 💪

Early placements are a vital part of their development —giving students the chance to connect classroom learning with real-world podiatry practice right from the start. And we can't wait to hear how they got on.

A huge thank you to our clinical practice educators for all their support during simulation days and now in placement. 🙌 Your expertise, patience, and guidance make an enormous difference in shaping confident, capable future podiatrists.

Good luck to everyone starting placement — we can’t wait to see you put everything you’ve learned into action!

We had an incredible and busy Open Day welcoming future podiatrists to Falmer! 🙂

A huge thank you to our student ambassadors who have supported us throughout the day and to Simon and Flo from Bognor Podiatry Clinic . Their infectious enthusiasm and commitment to promoting podiatry are truly inspiring.👏

In addition to participating in numerous outreach events alongside our students, Simon and Flo also serve as placement providers and clinical educators, playing a vital role on shaping the future of the profession.

Today’s the day! Our MSc Pre-Registration (Year 1) students are heading out on their very first placements.👏

Since the course started just over two months, they’ve worked incredibly hard building their clinical skills—everything from vascular and neurological assessments to offloading techniques. We know they’re especially loving their MSK practice! 😉🤣

Good luck to everyone starting placement—we couldn’t be prouder of your commitment, your progress, and the positive attitude you bring to every session. You’ve truly impressed us already!

Today we were delighted to welcome Louise Kenworthy, experienced MSK podiatrist and director of Complete Podiatry, for a fantastic session on musculoskeletal assessment with our Year 2 BSc and MSc (Pre-Registration) Year 1 students.

Huge thanks to Louise for sharing her clinical insights and expertise, and to for facilitating this engaging and informative session.👏

Events like these help our students bridge theory and clinical practice, and stay up-to-date with technological developments and the latest evidence-based practice. 😎

🎥 Hands-on learning in action! ✂️👣

Our new Master’s Pre-Registration Podiatry students have been developing their clinical skills since day one. In just over a month, they have been sharpening their scalpel and nail care techniques, mastering diabetic foot assessments, and taking their first steps into musculoskeletal evaluations through gait analysis and joint assessments.

It's fair to say they have been busy! 😅Their enthusiasm and resilience have truly stood out, and it's been fantastic to see them embrace each challenge. Soon they will be in clinic treating real patients! 💪

Last week was a bustling and exciting time as we warmly welcomed all the new Podiatry students to university. Alongside essential induction sessions, there was plenty of fun and team-building activities—some even testing our handling skills!🤣

A real highlight was the session with our amazing alumni.👩‍🎓🧑‍🎓 We're incredibly fortunate to have such a diverse group of professionals who generously shared their podiatry journeys and insights with our new recruits.👏

Another fantastic session focused on the use of artificial intelligence, equipping our students with the skills to use it effectively and stay at the cutting edge of podiatry practice.🤖

But above all, the most inspiring part was seeing so many enthusiastic, soon-to-be podiatrists ready to carry the profession forward. Here’s to the bright future ahead!💪😁
