Core Connection UK

Core Connection UK It's my pleasure to welcome you to BN1 Pilates. Pilates works for everyone because everyone needs and takes something different.

Whether you want to improve your posture, reduce joint pain, or add some strength and flexibility to your exercise routine, I’d love to help you achieve your aims. I passionately believe that anyone of any age and fitness can benefit from Pilates; from teenagers, to the stressed office worker, professional athletes to the retired. Above all, my classes are relaxed, challenging, educational and light hearted. I believe exercise should be fun. I qualified with STOTT PILATES® which is regarded as one of the world’s leaders in the Pilates field. It is a contemporary approach to the original exercise method pioneered by the late Joseph Pilates. I’m particularly interested in post-natal and ante-natal Pilates, using Pilates to recover from injuries and Pilates for older people. I regularly attend courses and workshops to keep up to date with the latest research and techniques. I first discovered Pilates when I fractured my hip in 2007 while training for a half marathon. A physiotherapist recommended Pilates as part of my recovery and I found that Pilates not only helped me to get back on my feet quickly, but it also improved my strength, posture and flexibility and I was also able to start running again. Since then I have had two children, and Pilates helped me prepare for the births and just as importantly, it also helped with my recovery. I was so impressed with my results from Pilates and how it made me feel, that I wanted to understand more about how Pilates worked. I decided to take my interest further by becoming a qualified instructor and share the benefits with others.

It you want to stay fit and healthy from the comfort of your home then now is a great time to join my membership group as all live classes start again next week.

This Tuesday, 7-7:50pm we have Heat, where we get sweaty and burn calories long after the class is over, but the exercises are pelvic floor safe. It’s low impact but high intensity, it’s jump free (well almost), and definitely burpee free because who needs those in their lives?!

Wednesday lunchtimes, 12-12:30pm is Heat Express, for those short of time but want to have a workout that packs a punch. Then on Thursdays 9:30-10am, we have Stronger, where we increase the weights and reduce the reps. This is important as every woman over 30 needs to be lifting weights.

I’ll be doing a talk on Wednesday 11 January about how to have your fittest year yet and then I’ll slow things down with a release workshop on Friday 27 January, 6-6:45pm as it's key to stretch and release.

All classes, workshops and talks are recorded and uploaded to the membership site. It couldn’t be an easier way to start and maintain an exercise routine. All this is £30 a month, join via my bio. It really is like having a PT in your pocket.

As we are very nearly in December and the countdown to Christmas begins, do you need to release and relax before silly season starts? If so, join me on Friday for my Release workshop. I’ll take you through 45 minutes of gorgeous stretches to help you unwind.
Give yourself the treat you deserve, with some alone time. Things are a bit intense at the moment, so I’ll help you release, stretch, mobilise, relax and let go….
This is a great opportunity to get some time to yourself and emerge feeling calm and collected and totally chilled.

I’ll be running the workshop, online from the comfort of your home and all you need is a tennis ball, flex band or scarf or a pair of tights. This workshop is part of my Core Tribe membership group or message me to book.

I’ve got one space left on my core strengthening course….

It's never too late to get a better functioning core! I've helped women of all ages from those in their 30s to those in their 70s and over.

I've also worked with women who haven't had children, newly postnatal ladies as well as those who had children years ago. But the first, and most important, step is to start and get help.

All clients complete a thorough health screening form, we then work through your posture and breathing so that you can connect to your deep core muscles.

We then bring in functional movement so a bonus is that you get fitter and stronger throughout the time you work with me.

If you are interested in joining my next six-week Holistic Core Restore®, Every Woman course starting on Tuesday 1 November, 8-9pm, then DM me. This is taught via zoom in the comfort of your home.

This course is the gold standard in helping women restore their cores and pelvic floors.

A number of years ago I was very fortunate to meet HM The Queen. On that occasion, I saw first hand, how she had an incredible dedication to duty which was there right up until earlier this week. Rest in peace.

This is so much more than just winning a football match, it's creating a legacy. Today will go down as a pivotal change in time for women in sport. Girls now have to be able to play football at school if they want to. To quote England's captain “The legacy of this tournament is the change in society."

Why women over 35 need to lift weights...

As we age we lose muscle mass, through a natural process called sarcopenia, but the good news is it can be reversed with resistance training, such as lifting weights, using resistance bands and/or doing body weight exercise.

Bone density also starts to reduce from the age of 30 and is most rapid for several years post-menopause, so bone health is not old lady business! But lifting weights puts mechanical strain on bones and lays down more bone tissue. Again another tick in the box for resistance training.

Post-35 you need to do cardiovascular exercise that gets your heart rate up because cardiovascular disease is one of the biggest killers of women in the UK, but at the same time you don't want to do exercise sessions that exhaust your body, compromise your joint health and put too much strain and impact through your pelvic floor.

Training women post-35 has many nuances. You are not a 'little man' so you need exercise specialists like me who are trained and understand women's bodies and what you need at different stages in your life.

How many of these 'must dos' can you tick off in your workouts? My courses, membership group, 121s all cover the above so DM me to talk about how I can help you at whatever life stage you're at! Prenatal, postnatal, perimenopause or post-menopause.

How can I help you with your fitness and wellness journey over the summer? As it gets hotter, it’s oh sooo easy to take your foot off the pedal and idly relax into summer. I know, I’ve been there, and that is why this summer I’m here to support you.

I’m going to keep running my popular Holistic Core Restore® Heat course over the holidays. It’s low impact but high intensity, it’s jump free (well almost), and definitely burpee free because who needs those in their lives?! We get sweaty and burn calories long after the class is over, but the exercises are pelvic floor safe.

The next six-week course starts on Tuesday 19 July-6 September (with a two-week break from 16-23 August), it's at 7-7:50pm, it costs £67, and you receive a recording of the class. You can find out more via my bio.

My Heat course is also part of my Core Tribe membership group. Over the summer holidays as well as the Heat course, I'll be adding in pop up sessions in which we'll be experimenting with different types of classes. Also, Josephine Cobb will be our expert speaker in August talking about how to reduce food cravings. As a member of Core Tribe, you'll have access to a library of more than 200 workouts as everything is recorded and uploaded. Plus, every Monday I add a new HIIT and strength session to your online homework portal. This is £30 a month.

My Heat course and Core Tribe group are suitable for every woman as I offer modifications for the exercises. However, if you have any pelvic floor issues such as urinary incontinence, mild prolapse, diastasis or back pain then I’d recommend my Holistic Core Restore® Every Woman course. I teach these one to one over the summer for £300 (for 6 sessions). Alternatively, the course starts on Tuesday 13 September, 8-9pm and the group session is £147 via zoom. You can find out more via my bio. If you’re unsure what you need then DM me for a free 15-minute consultation call.

I’m really pleased to be invited back by Greater Brighton MET] alongside nutritionist, to talk to staff about how we can best work with our hormones; from periods to perimenopause.

Tracking our cycles and symptoms can help us work with, not against our menstrual cycle. It also helps us understand if we are coming into perimenopause.

Becoming more aware of how we feel, can help us get the support we need to navigate this next phase of our lives.

If you work for a forward-thinking organisation, like Greater Brighton MET] then amongst other things we can discuss:

✅ The different phases of your menstrual cycle and how to use hormonal shifts to your advantage.
✅ Symptoms of the perimenopause - how you know you’re in it.
✅ How to navigate these symptoms which include fatigue, hot flushes, and anxiety.
✅ Hormone health.
✅ Pelvic Floor health.
✅ Key vitamins and minerals to include in your diet.
✅ Foods/drinks to avoid and to include.
✅ Bones...what you need to know.
✅ Weight management.
✅ Sleep.
✅ Stress management
✅ How to improve your energy levels
✅ The best exercise to support you in midlife.
If any of these topics are of interest then do get in touch.
