Our next Online Homeless Health tutorial for frontline workers in Brighton's homelessness services is taking place on Thurs 27th November at 9.30am.

Infectious Diseases - what are they?
Have you heard of GAS (group A strep) and not sure what it is? Why do we worry about some infections more than others? How do we manage infections in the community? How do we stop them spreading? This hour long online tutorial, designed for frontline workers will look at how best to support clients and patients who are homeless and have an infection.

This tutorial will be delivered by Dr Daisy Woolham - Infectious Diseases Registrar, and Dr Kirsty Hewitt - Consultant in Health Protection. As always, there will time for attendees to ask questions at the end.

As the temperature drops, we're starting to collect warm winter items for patients who don't have these. If you have any coats, hats, gloves or jumpers in clean, good condition that you no longer need, please drop them off to our surgery on Morley St (open 8am - 5pm, Mon-Fri). We particularly need men's items but very happy to take women's clothes too as they're all useful. Thank you πŸ’œ

1,611. This is number of people who died in the UK in 2024 while experiencing homelessness – a 9% increase on the year before. This number included 11 children who died while homeless. While we want to remain hopeful, but on this , it felt right to highlight these shocking figures. No one should die without somewhere safe to call home.

The homelessness crisis has deepened as inequality has widened in the last few years. We hope this latest report by Museum of Homelessness reaches those in both national and local government and compels them to double down on efforts to reduce, and one day – eradicate, homelessness. https://zurl.co/KU6Pl

To mark World Su***de Prevention Day we wanted to share this important resource from for anyone in homelessness services with advice on how to talk to someone about suicidal thoughts. We also want to take a moment to remember those who have died by su***de and continue working to prevent more deaths like this. https://zurl.co/jXDXb

Publications and videos covering talking to people with suicidal thoughts, improving prevention policies, and supporting staff dealing with suicidal clients.

"For me it's about remembrance and keeping their memory alive."

Today we honour those we've lost to overdose & recognise the signs in those who might be struggling. Sometimes being present is the most powerful prevention.
