I’ve never been one to fully embrace winter. The cold, the slippery uneven surfaces, the ever-encroaching darkness. All the while the same or sometimes an even greater amount of demands seem to arrive, to call our attention. It can easily shift towards a space of overwhelm.

But the winter is an opportunity to turn inward. To turn towards the things that are actually valuable and nourishing. To replenish our energetic stores. It’s a reminder that everything happens in its own time and that despite our greatest efforts, we can’t rush the blooming and unfolding, we can’t change what’s meant to be.

Wishing you all a lovely and nourishing winter solstice.

Lots of love

Alice

Are you struggling with mouth breathing, shallow breath or feeling constricted/like you’re not getting enough oxygen? The diaphragm is part of the deep front line of fascia, meaning that it has intimate connections with structures along this line. Also indicating that any restriction within these tissues can impact its ability to function optimally.

Some of these structures are potentially not so obvious as open the chest, open the ribcage, but can still play a role in limiting your ability to take full, natural and relaxed breaths. Here are some stretches to help you breathe better and assist/support any breathwork practice you may be undertaking.

1. Ankles/Tibialis posterior
2. Adductors
3. Psoas/iliacus complex
4. Quadratus lumborum
5. Anterior longitudinal ligament, spinal extension
6. Scalenes

The impact that only moving in certain ranges/having restricted movement can play is broader than just impacting the direct area of restriction. The body is all one piece, it works together and it thrives together.

It is so difficult to not take what we already have for granted. It is so difficult to be here now, to enjoy the present without constantly striving, strategizing and trying to prove our worth.

Mindfulness and living intentionally are not an easy road. This is particularly true in an age of distraction and monetized attention. Lately, the need for connection, ritual and community have been at the forefront of my mind. These things are essential for creating the framework necessary to hold our gratitude, our presence and our intention. Without this essential structure, the human mind is left adrift.

If you’ve felt lost or searching or disconnected lately, like myself, let’s connect, let’s turn towards what is naturally good and supportive and essential.

Love you lots ✨✨

Alice 🖤
