This week, we celebrated a 1940s style Harvest Home evening at Westbury Fields retirement village - St Monica Trust .

Our chefs Stefano and James prepared for the event the most delicious Lord Woolton Pie. This recipe was promoted by the 1st Earl of Woolton, who served as Minister of Food and shared economical recipes to the public during WWII.

Also, introduced, tasted and very much enjoyed was the newly brewed, St Monica Trust's very own beer 'Hundred Not Out'.

The Clifton Folk group entertained us with old harvest, as well as popular songs, sung in the 1940s and old English clog dances.

It was a much enjoyed evening by all.

Recently, we were delighted to welcome the Year 6 pupils at Badock Woods Academy to Westbury Fields.

They shared with our residents their learning about WWII and heard about our residents’ real-life stories and their personal accounts of living during that time.

The students found listening to their stories of courage, resilience, and community spirit inspiring and our residents loved connecting with the students.

This month at Westbury Fields, we celebrated our Harvest Festival—a time to give thanks for what grows, both in the earth and in our lives.

At the close of the service, we gathered to break bread together—quite literally—sharing a beautifully baked harvest loaf. What made it extra special this year? Homemade jam, lovingly gifted by our friend Joe.

A heartfelt thank you to Joe, Ashlee (our Westbury Fields Pastoral Coordinator) and to all our residents, who contributed gifts towards the Foodbank and who made this celebration so meaningful.

Last week, our residents enjoyed visiting Bristol Beer Factory to learn more about the brewing process of beer and taste some of their drinks. This visit was part of the Hoppiness Project, where we are co-producing our own St Monica Trust beer to celebrate our centenary.

One of our residents who attended said: "Despite not being a beer drinker it was a really enjoyable and informative visit on Thursday. Our guide was very enthusiastic and knowledgeable, and above all for some of our party - very audible! Very generously we were given the equivalent of up to 3-4 pints per person, broken down into half a dozen or so 1/3 pints. We could also opt for cider or non-alcoholic beer if we preferred. It was also good to catch up with other St Monica residents who were there. So it was a very merry return to Westbury Fields but no newspaper reports of drunken OAPs misbehaving!"

After enjoying an outing to Sandford Station, one of our Westbury Fields kindly sent the following message.

"I was so pleased to see the Sandford site. Samantha kindly took us on a tour. It was a beautiful sunny day for the walk along the disused Strawberry railway line and we all enjoyed a jolly lunch together."

This week we are marking PRAYER WEEK at Westbury Fields. Our Pastoral Team has set up a PRAYER TABLE in the Community Lounge - a peaceful space to pause, reflect, and pray.
Everyone is warmly invited to come and spend some time there.
You will find prayer cards, reflections, and space to leave your own thoughts on the PRAYER WALL.

Thank you so much.

Our month of 1920s at Westbury Fields has come to an end. The highlight was our Gatsby party, where many of our residents dressed up in the most luxurious costumes and looked simply fabulous!

With cocktails, a 1920s themed meal, and entertainment from the dance showgirls 'The Flaming Feathers', we had a truly special night.

Thank you to the chef and his team for cooking such a fabulous meal. To Jeanette, our Manager, and photographer for the night. To Ash, for serving the cocktails. To Deborah, Mandy and Robyn, who served and to Jenny, Dilys and Domenica who helped decorate the room and prepare. Such fantastic teamwork!
