If you believe you're going to fail, you'll likely act in ways (consciously or unconsciously) that make failure more likely — procrastinating, doubting yourself, holding back effort. That belief becomes a self-fulfilling prophecy.

Self-sabotage are patterns of behaviour, thoughts, or emotions that actively work against our own goals, values, or well-being. It’s often unconscious, meaning we might not notice we're derailing ourselves until the consequences become clear.

We self-sabotage for many reasons — low self-esteem, unresolved trauma, learned behaviours from early life experiences, fear of failure and even fear of success.

While it might seem irrational, these behaviours often serve a psychological function, like avoiding disappointment or maintaining a sense of control.
