Let me introduce you to baby Gabriel 🥰💙

Gabriel was born last Wednesday, the 20th and we are doing well. It was a quick delivery and we went home a few hours later.

Alice is a proud sister and we are all making the most of the newborn cuddles! 👨‍👩‍👧‍👦🤱🏻

Wave of light 🕯️

Remembering all the families who never got to meet their babies or lost them during or shortly after birth. 👼

It’s the end of Baby Loss Awareness week and I’m sending my wishes to all friends/colleagues who have experienced baby loss. 🫂

1 in 4 pregnancies ends in miscarriage.

There are lots of support you can get from amazing charities like Sands, Tommy’s, Bliss, The Ectopic Pregnancy Trust, Lullaby Trust.

Don’t suffer in silence. Baby Loss is more common than you might think. I’m sure you never get over it but sharing it might make it a little bit easier.

Sending my love and big hugs,
Rute 💜

“Rute is absolute magic! After hearing about her amazing results for a friend of mine, we immediately knew we wanted to try Rute’s gentle sleep training approach. Our 7 month old never really came back from a very difficult 4 month regression (up every 45mins-1 hour throughout the night for weeks) and I was completely exhausted. The only way he would sleep was being fed to sleep, and he would wake immediately as soon as we put him into his cot, so we were co-sleeping for ease. We were really nervous about trying sleep training and scared of the oncoming crying, but after 3 weeks working with Rute, it felt pretty life changing! The first two nights were hard, with lots of wake ups, but by the third night there was a transformation and by the end of the 3 weeks we were able to put our little one down awake in his cot, in his own room and he would fall asleep by himself and only wake once a night for a quick feed. Just incredible! It’s so hard to know which sleep training approach to go for and to do it consistently, but having Rute there to guide us with regular check-ins every few days and responding to messages really helped us remain consistent and we got the results we wanted. We’ve recommended her to all our friends, working with Rute was the best thing we did, we are all getting fantastic sleep now and are very well rested!”

👉🏼I do prefer the term sleep coaching rather than sleep training as my help doesn’t involve leaving babies to cry alone and sleep coaching is so much more and so comprehensive!

5 things that I appreciate much more since I became a mum

Basically any help is very welcome. Thank you! 😁

Being a mum is hard sometimes but at the same time I really enjoy the small (big) things in life and I want to teach Alice to be grateful and to see the world with an open heart. ❤️

When the bouncer becomes a problem - client feedback

👉🏼This family used the bouncer for their little one to fall asleep every bedtime and every nap.

😩Dylan seemed windy and uncomfortable and took a long time to fall asleep.

😣He would wake 3-4 times at night and be up 30min-2.5h until he fell asleep by bouncing again.

😵‍💫This was an obvious unsustainable situation for parents and especially for mum who did most bedtimes, as dad was commuting late from work. Adding to this there was the anxiety of Dylan starting nursery.

🤲🏼Dylan needed lot of support to fall asleep but gradually we transitioned from the bouncer to holding and then putting him on his cot and settling next to him!

📝Mum also kept a close eye on his diet and started a food diary. It wasn’t always a straightforward process but that’s what infant sleep looks like!

🩵I am so happy for this family’s progress and very thankful for these loving words. It was a pleasure working with you and Mahul!

If just like this family, what you are doing is no longer sustainable, DM me the word ‘sleep’ so we can have a chat about what support I can offer you ☺️

How I got my daughter to sleep through the night (without crying it out)

🚨Note that this is the story of how it went for us. It doesn’t mean that you will have to do the same things for your little one to sleep through the night - most likely not!

- Every child is different
- Every parent is different
- Every journey is different
- You don’t have to stop breastfeeding to sleep if you enjoy it and it works for you
- You don’t have to move your little one to their own room if you’re not ready
- You shouldn’t change anything because you feel pressure from family, friends or society
- Your little one WILL eventually sleep through the night

And you ask: but WHEN??

Here’s when👇🏼

Once you accept that supporting your little one to sleep is normal - calm and safety will come and sleeping through the night will naturally happen!

Like if you found this post reassuring 😌

Why every different stage of sleep is important 💤

It is so common for parents to misjudge that their baby is waking up when in fact they are just transitioning from deep to light sleep;

Or to think that for a good quality of sleep, NREM sleep is the most restorative and critical when actually, for babies and children that are learning about the world and absorbing new information everyday, REM sleep is so important too! 🤓

Supporting babies and children during all stages of sleep is vital.

If you found this interesting, save for later.

A successful transition to own room!

When I was approached by this family, mum was exhausted as baby A was waking up multiple times at night and resisting naps.

Sleep deprivation was having a real physical and emotional impact but in a week’s time of working on baby A’s sleep plan there were great improvements:

1. We removed the dummy and slowly started new sleep associations
2. Baby A started to sleep for longer stretches
3. Settling for naps became much easier and they were longer too

It was a gradual process and transitioning to his own room felt like a good option as this was something parents were wanting to do but unsure of how to gently do it.

Note that moving babies to a separate room is not always the answer and not something you need to do if you don’t want to!

In this instance where baby A seemed to be easily awaken due to movement and noise in the room it was a natural, successful transition.

I am very grateful for this amazing feedback! Thank you Susana and João!😍

Do you find the time to actually be present and enjoy the celebrations? 😬

I thought this was very accurate for the weekend as we are planing and preparing another birthday party for Alice tomorrow. This time with friends!

Making sure we actually have fun together can be hard when you are thinking about everything you have to do.

Can you relate?

💙Two🤍

So many smiles, so many cries, so much laughter, so much drama! She’s a foodie, she’s a dancer, she’s an airplane spotter, she’s a garden lover. She gives the gentlest hugs and throws massive tantrums. She’s loud, she’s sensitive, she’s strong, she’s sweet.

Happy birthday my love! Be you, always.

Does this happen to you too? 😜
