October is Menopause Awareness Month

Did you know, during perimenopause is when the greatest amount of muscle mass is lost? This loss is due to reductions in estrogen, and the alterations this causes to body composition.

Why is reducing muscle mass important? Because muscle helps to support joints and tendons. Without muscle "doing it's part" and helping us to move, joints can become painful and tendons can become under greater load, leading to inflammatory conditions such as achilles tendonitis or plantar fasciitis.
