Dycem Contamination Control Effective, Efficient & Sustainable Contamination Control Mats.

18/02/2026

Why should you re-think sticky mats in your facility?

Sticky peel-off mats come with a range of risks to be aware of, including:

1️⃣ Only 27% effective (Clibbon, 2002)
2️⃣ Particle redistribution (particles are released back into the air during the peel-off process)
3️⃣ Tear-prone and trip hazards
4️⃣ Often get caught on wheeled traffic
5️⃣ Size, they are often not big enough to effectively decontaminate shoes and wheels

Familiar with these issues? Dycem offers a more reliable solution:

✅ Up to 99.9% effectiveness
✅ Antimicrobial protection
✅ Long-lasting performance (3-5 years)
✅ Easy to clean
✅ Professional appearance

When operators gown up, they inevitably release particles into the air. Fibres from clothing, skin cells, and microscopic debris are disturbed by movement and become airborne during changing and donning procedures. As these particles settle, they can migrate into controlled environments if not effectively managed. ❌

This is where Dycem plays a critical role ❕

As particles fall, they are drawn to Dycem’s smooth polymer surface by van der Waals forces and securely retained, preventing them from being redistributed by foot traffic or airflow and entering the cleanroom.

To reduce particle release during gowning:

✔ Move slowly and deliberately
✔ Follow correct gowning technique
✔ Wear low-lint cleanroom garments
✔ Minimise talking and unnecessary movement
✔ Maintain proper airflow and filtration

Combined with good gowning discipline, Dycem strengthens contamination control at a critical transition point ✅

Ever wonder how Dycem is installed?

We’ve been capturing real Dycem installations in timelapse across training facilities, biotech organizations, and controlled environments. From main entrances to gowning rooms, these installs show how floor-level contamination control is integrated into real workflows with minimal disruption.

Our installers make it look easy, but every placement is intentional and designed to reduce contamination risk at the source.

If you are rethinking how contamination enters your facility, this behind-the-scenes look is worth watching.

We’re live in San Diego for ISPE Facilities of the Future!

Today the Dycem team is on the show floor ready to talk about contamination control at the floor level and how that supports facilities pushing the industry forward. One great example is Touchlight, the 2025 ISPE Facility of the Year Award category winner for Innovation for its next-generation synthetic DNA manufacturing facility.

Dycem contamination control solutions are helping facilities like Touchlight guard cleanroom cleanliness by preventing contaminants from entering critical areas via shoes and wheels. You can read their full case study here:

The National Graphene Institute (NGI) at the University of Manchester partnered with Dycem to strengthen contamination control within their state-of-the-art cleanroom suite.

By introducing Dycem mats, NGI improved containment at critical entry points, reduced annual consumable costs, and adopted a more sustainable approach to contamination control.

Dycem mats are designed to be:
✅ Easy to maintain
✅ Durable and long-lasting
✅ Proven to support air quality and protect sensitive equipment

📅 February 2–3, 2026

We’ll be connecting with facilities, quality, and engineering teams to talk floor-level contamination control in pharma and advanced manufacturing environments.

And we’re not leaving just yet…

We’ll be staying in San Diego for Advanced Therapies Week, February 9–12, 2026, continuing the conversation around contamination control for cell and gene therapy and regulated clean environments.

Two events, one trip, lots of cleanroom conversations.
And yes… the socks are coming with us.

Using peel-off mats across just 10 locations can generate up to 70,000 kg of CO₂ each year.

That is equivalent to:
🚗 15 cars driven for a full year
✈️ 30 round-trip flights from London to New York
🌲 3,500 trees absorbing CO₂ for an entire year

This level of environmental impact comes from a small number of locations using disposable contamination control solutions.
