In the 1960s, our founder David Cecil Mills discovered a polymer that could hold photographic film perfectly still under a microscope.

That discovery turned into something bigger.

By 1966, Dycem was founded, and the same high-tack polymer that stabilized film would eventually help control contamination in some of the world’s most critical environments.

From laboratories and pharmaceutical facilities to food production and data centers, Dycem products help control contamination carried on foot and wheeled traffic.

60 years later, the mission remains the same: Protect critical environments from the floor up.

We all have to start somewhere!

Long before the strategy calls, site surveys, forecasts, and follow ups, we were just kids with big personalities and even bigger expressions.

Thank you to the team members who were good sports and shared their baby photos so we could have a little fun!

We’re at ISPE CASA today 👋

If you’re at the show, stop by booth #338 and see Alun, Ale, and Morgan at the Dycem table. They’re talking floor-level contamination control, cleanroom best practices, and smarter alternatives to sticky mats.

And yes… the socks are here. 🧦

Come grab a pair and let’s talk about keeping your cleanroom cleaner at the floor level!

Why should you re-think sticky mats in your facility?

Sticky peel-off mats come with a range of risks to be aware of, including:

1️⃣ Only 27% effective (Clibbon, 2002)
2️⃣ Particle redistribution (particles are released back into the air during the peel-off process)
3️⃣ Tear-prone and trip hazards
4️⃣ Often get caught on wheeled traffic
5️⃣ Size, they are often not big enough to effectively decontaminate shoes and wheels

Familiar with these issues? Dycem offers a more reliable solution:

✅ Up to 99.9% effectiveness
✅ Antimicrobial protection
✅ Long-lasting performance (3-5 years)
✅ Easy to clean
✅ Professional appearance

When operators gown up, they inevitably release particles into the air. Fibres from clothing, skin cells, and microscopic debris are disturbed by movement and become airborne during changing and donning procedures. As these particles settle, they can migrate into controlled environments if not effectively managed. ❌

This is where Dycem plays a critical role ❕

As particles fall, they are drawn to Dycem’s smooth polymer surface by van der Waals forces and securely retained, preventing them from being redistributed by foot traffic or airflow and entering the cleanroom.

To reduce particle release during gowning:

✔ Move slowly and deliberately
✔ Follow correct gowning technique
✔ Wear low-lint cleanroom garments
✔ Minimise talking and unnecessary movement
✔ Maintain proper airflow and filtration

Combined with good gowning discipline, Dycem strengthens contamination control at a critical transition point ✅

Ever wonder how Dycem is installed?

We’ve been capturing real Dycem installations in timelapse across training facilities, biotech organizations, and controlled environments. From main entrances to gowning rooms, these installs show how floor-level contamination control is integrated into real workflows with minimal disruption.

Our installers make it look easy, but every placement is intentional and designed to reduce contamination risk at the source.

If you are rethinking how contamination enters your facility, this behind-the-scenes look is worth watching.
