Pleased to announce that I am now on the Joint Council for Cosmetic Practitioners register!

Why is this important?

To be eligible to join the JCCP register with full membership an aesthetic practitioner must have:
- An accredited level 7 qualification in aesthetic medicine
- Professional registration with a governing body
- Indemnity and public liability insurance
- Strict clinic hygiene standards
- Completed enough treatments to keep their skills and knowledge up to date
- Evidence of ongoing training, known as CPD

Three years ago today I had my first flash back when completing a non surgical rhinoplasty?

Q: What is a flash back?
A: A flash back is a term used for when blood from a patient ends up in a needle or syringe during injection.

Q: What causes this to happen?
A: This happens when the needle is sat in a blood vessel in your patients face.

Q: Why is this dangerous?
A: if filler is injected into a blood vessel in the face, it creates a blockage aka a “vascular occlusion”. When there is a blockage, blood cannot get through the vessel to parts of the face.

Q: What happens if the blockage is left untreated?
A: If blood, and therefore oxygen, cannot get the the skin and underlying structures these areas of the face will begin to die.

Q: How can this be prevented?
A: Choosing a practitioner that has good anatomy knowledge and experience can reduce the risk but not remove it completely as everyone’s facial structure is slightly different.

Q: Can a blockage be treated?
A: Yes, the filler can be dissolved if the complication is recognised by the practitioner.

Why you will never find this ridiculous practice at Truly Radiant. Words taken with permission from

I’ve noticed an increasing number of posts like this on my social media. Taping of lips like this post procedure is said to prevent filler from moving or migrating and/or keep hyaluronidase (used to dissolve filler) within the lips where it can work.

This type of procedure shows nothing other than a complete lack of anatomical knowledge. There is no evidence or physiological or anatomical reason why this would work. Tape applied superficially to the skin will have zero effect on what is happening in the subcutaneous tissue. This lack of knowledge about human anatomy is worrying considering the procedures being undertaken.

I’m fully prepared that this post will get backlash, and more than happy to change my mind in the face of evidence - as any good scientist should. So, if you have evidence I have missed, send it over.
