It's official... SIGHT RESEARCH UK TURNS 40 TODAY! šŸŽ‰ šŸŽ‚ šŸŽˆ

On this very day 40 years ago, our charity was founded by the remarkable Professor David Easty. Over the past four decades, we have grown out of one man's earnest endeavour to save eyesight to become one of the country's leading charities funding eye research. It is his legacy that we honour today.

We may have evolved and transformed over the years - we began life in the Bristol Eye Hospital focusing on corneal transplants, but now we invest millions into any and all eye conditions, whether common or rare, mild or severe.

Despite our growth, our primary purpose has never altered. At our core, we strive to improve the lives of real people who are experiencing sight loss and blindness. That has never changed - and never will.

Throughout December 2025, we partnered with Newmedica for a second year running to carry out our ā€˜Seeing is Believing’ festive fundraiser.

We have once again been blown away by the unrelenting kindness and generosity of our community. And we are delighted to announce that your doubled gifts bring this year’s total to an impressive Ā£26,690!

We cannot thank you enough. Every gift you’ve given this December will go towards novel ways to treat and prevent blindness. Our Chief Executive, Lucy Culkin, says:

ā€œWe are overjoyed to announce this year’s Christmas campaign result, smashing the previous year’s total of Ā£25,135. Your support year-on-year truly makes a difference. We are also extremely grateful to Newmedica, whose team has once again gone above and beyond to double every donation made to eye research this season. Together, we have achieved something extraordinary. Thank you.ā€

It’s your LAST CHANCE to make a donation to our ā€˜Seeing Is Believing’ charity campaign, which closes at midnight tonight.

Why your support is critical:
We are searching for answers surrounding eye conditions and diseases by investing in vital research. Without sight-saving research, those diagnosed with sight loss and blindness are left in the dark.

We need you for this final hurdle. Please help us make these last few hours count!

ā€œThere are so many dedicated and passionate researchers working in the area of ophthalmology – all committed to finding out more about eye disease and developing new diagnostics or therapeutics. There is so much innovation in the field – and that makes me hopeful!ā€

Dr Beth Mills and her team at The University of Edinburgh are currently developing a lateral flow device to screen for a sight-threatening condition called microbial keratitis. This tool, similar to those used to test for coronavirus and pregnancy, could minimise the risk of sight loss by saving precious time to obtain a diagnosis.

We are bringing hope into focus at Sight Research UK. Your donations towards sight-saving research help scientists like Beth turn innovative ideas into real-world solutions. Until 31 December, dive into the spirit of this season with a gift that will be doubled by our partners at Newmedica!

ā€œI support Sight Research UK as, having had 2 cataract operations, I know the difference that eye surgery can make.

With the population living longer, there will be many more people living with impaired vision. Anything which can mitigate this situation is worthy of support.

We have a beautiful world, so let’s see it in sharp focus!ā€

Every day in the UK, approximately 250 people start to lose their sight. Felicity supports our daily efforts at Sight Research UK to stop this from happening- and you can make a difference too!

This festive season, become part of this journey with us by donating to our ā€˜Seeing Is Believing’ campaign.

Every donation you make towards sight-saving research will be doubled by our partners at Newmedica, meaning your gift will go twice as far in helping to create a clearer future for those living with sight loss.

There are 2 weeks left of our ā€˜Seeing is Believing’ festive fundraiser to raise funds for vital sight-saving future research projects.

Already, thanks to your kindness and generosity, our matched giving campaign has so far raised £12,908* towards our goal this Christmas!

This is a phenomenal start, which has been made possible because of you. But we are determined (with your help!) to reach our total of £20,000.

And until 31 December, your gifts to Sight Research UK will be matched penny for penny by our partners at Newmedica.

To see your gift of vision go twice as far, DONATE TODAY: https://bit.ly/4j4efkr

*Includes matched funding from Newmedica

There are so many reasons to support sight research. For Mikki, it’s about helping those living with vision loss to maintain autonomy of their own lives.

ā€œI donated to Sight Research UK because sight is something many of us take for granted.

Supporting research that can prevent vision loss means giving people the chance to see their loved ones more clearly, continue to do what they enjoy doing, and keep their independence.ā€

Stand with Mikki and give a gift of vision today. Your donations will go towards critical future research projects at Sight Research UK to combat sight loss and blindness.

Donate before Tuesday 31 December, to see your donation doubled by our partners at Newmedica!
