If you’re struggling with anxiety or low mood AND your gut issues you’re by no means alone.
This was a big study - and it showed there is a high correlation between mental health issues and IBS. Of course we already knew that from previous research, but when you see the links so clearly in a huge population study it brings it all home a bit.

In this research the connection between mood and IBS was strongest in:
women
under 40s
poor sleep
existing health conditions

SIBO causes - you need to know what you’re dealing with before you leap into multiple rounds of treatment. Sometimes the thing you need to change is harder than popping another supplement or avoiding FODMAPs for another 6 months.
It might be your relationship to food and eating pattern. It could be your stress levels. Or the fact you don’t eat any carbs.

Now I’m not saying those things are the sole cause of SIBO, but unless you start addressing your whole health it’s very hard to get a grip on the overgrown bacteria.

The thing is, waiting usually means more time on Google or Chat GPT, more supplements, more diet restriction.

I bet you’ve probably wondered if you’ve got IBS at some point

In truth, for most people, the formal diagnosis doesn’t really matter… What really is important, is being able to identify the root cause of your symptoms so you can manage them without medication, and ultimately alleviate them.

I’m Anna Mapson. I’m a nutritionist who specialises in all things ‘digestive health’ and I help people get rid of their IBS symptoms.

But…I’m 100% not about ‘one size fits all’. I don’t believe is that everyone with typical IBS symptoms should be cutting things out of their diets and following low FODMAP plans.
