The Quiet Heart

The Quiet Heart Therapist, teacher & coach. Guiding you 1:1 & in community to compassionately notice what you need

I work 1:1 in private practice and offer group training, teaching or workshops in the workplace with you and your team, in schools and universities and at events and retreats. I am highly trained in Chinese Medicine, acupuncture, meditation, mental health, yoga, somatic experiencing, counselling, nature immersion and sound. My background is corporate leadership and business development in Human Resources. I use a combination of these skills and my experience to invite an awareness of the senses and how you are feeling. Through this, I’ll show you how it’s possible to bring your nervous system to a place of balance, helping you hear what feels right for you in any moment. I am passionate about the neuroscience of how our body works, the power of human connection and community, our relationship with the natural rhythm of the seasons, and the practices that deepen those connections.

As we flow into Autumn, we might notice some thoughts on change and transitions: the seasons, the moon and perhaps how we are deeply connected to both.

Today, on this Autumn full moon, the Harvest Moon, and the evolving days to come, I hope you might see a conker, a beechnut, or notice the turning of a leaf, and that they allow you to pause for a moment, and maybe smile while reflecting on the seasons and cycles, and how they are absolutely necessary for growth.

And if you feel sadness as we turn towards the darker months, picture the starlings that come together to make their journey south, and like them, find the people to walk with you through these winter months.

Find those that reassure you, the way nature shows us the gentle ease of trust and hope.

Remember: without Autumn, there is no Spring, without Winter, there is no Summer, and, without stillness, there is no movement.

The Autumn Equinox encourages us to consider our relationship with transitions or change.

This time of equal day and night also brings awareness to our relationship with balance.

We might consider the year so far, and reflect on abundance or what we are grateful for, but also, what we want to call in, or focus on through the darker months.

Taoism shows how even within balance, there is change, and that for something to exist, it needs the opposite. The Way 道, the only way is to recognise interdependence. Flow, rooted in a sense of steadiness, where this shows up in our life and what we can influence.

Life throws many challenges, and it moves fast. This week invites us to pause, notice where we can find steadiness, and who we want with us on this journey as we turn towards the winter months.

Hello and happy midpoint between Winter Solstice and Spring equinox: Imbolc, also known as The Quickening.

This is no time to rush. Qi in the form of Yang energy (fire) is awaking, around us and within us: a sensory pause before the great breath of life exhales into spring. Nature is showing us to stay steady within this moment of great awakening; to move gently, unfurl.

We’ll be exploring this waning winter Earth and rising spring energy at the next Seasonal Evening in Bristol on 22nd Feb and now online on the 23rd for those of you who asked. Join me in community to gently move your body, practice a seasonal acupressure routine and then settle down with a guided meditation and sound. Tickets and more info in my profile.

Love to you all and I hope that these last few weeks of winter find you noticing within you the same steadiness and grace as the earth between our feet. There’s no rush.

Perimenopause and menopause is a time of transition: of standing at a threshold with uncertainty as your sidekick.

A few years ago, I became a statistic: I had an ‘early menopause’. I’m a good few years post now, but I am only just coming to terms with this new season I find myself in.

I was traditional ‘symptom’ free, but my experience with word and memory loss, difficulty concentrating, fatigue and aching feet (!) made life as a self-employed, solo parent v challenging - one which I’m still processing.

I passionately believe in a person’s right to choose what’s best for their body. I experimented with everything: HRT, movement, counselling, herbs, acupuncture obvs, moving on from unhealthy relationships…and, 4 years later; I finally feel that I’ve found my rhythm and a sense of steadiness.

On reflection, I truly believe the following:
⋆ that we all need to be loved a bit harder through this stage,
⋆ that we need allies,

but mainly,

⋆ that managing stress is fundamental to a smoother ride…

Which is why I love the work I do.

With this in mind, I’m off to Edinburgh today to begin work and training as an associate for - an organisation which is raising awareness about the peri and menopause with training and workshops. Join us for a FREE online workshop tonight on Acupressure for Menopause - link in my profile 🧡
