Before Nicola came to the Hospice, her husband Kevin supported her with personal care, monitoring test results and daily doctor visits. When they were sadly told there were no further treatment options, he was braced for more of the same at the Hospice. But, Kevin said, "A nurse looked at me in the eye and changed everything with a single sentence - 'you don't need to worry about any of that now. You can just be her husband.' In that moment things shifted."

A weight was lifted from Kevin's shoulders so he, Nicola, their son Conor, his fiancée Rachel and their dog, Gruffalo, could be a family again. Nicola spent her final days finding peace, reminiscing with her family about their lives together.

When Gary was told his cancer had spread and there was nothing more that doctors could do, St Peter's were there to make sure he could stay at home where he wanted to be. Thanks to donations from kind people like you, we were there to help Gary and his wife, Karen. The team supported with the admin and logistics, and even set up a room downstairs when Gary could no longer get up the stairs.

There's still time to donate to our 44 days campaign, to make sure more people like Karen and Gary get the support they deserve. Visit our website to donate today: https://ow.ly/PW7E50YxHu5

44 days. That’s the average time someone spends with St Peter’s Hospice. What would you do with them if that’s all you had left? Takeaway with mum? Board games with the kids? Walk the dog? Or just curl up on the sofa with a cuppa and a book?

All we know is, you wouldn’t choose pain or paperwork. That’s why we’re here. Help our patients spend their last 44 days how you would want to spend yours. Donate today: https://ow.ly/tNw450YxEcf

Brushstrokes is a five week art programme led by volunteers at the Hospice. It offers moments of light in what can be a dark time for patients. Terri, a Brushstrokes student, said, "It makes you feel like there's still something you can do that's new, that's interesting, that means it's not over."

44 days. That’s the average time someone spends with St Peter’s Hospice and Brushstrokes is just one way we help people make the most of that time. Help fill more people's final 44 days with light by making a donation today: https://ow.ly/L6cH50YvjHI

Have you picked up your Rugby March ticket yet? Here's why you should. 🤩

🌻Get outside in the sun on 9 May and get your steps in. Our 5km and 10km routes are a great way to get moving.

💙 After signing up, you'll receive a FREE Rugby March 2026 t-shirt, with space to add a loved one's name and keep their memory alive as you march with others.

👏 Every penny you raise helps local people get the care they deserve. It costs £30,000 per day to run the Hospice, so by gathering sponsorship, you're supporting our valuable work.

🌉 From the majestic Clifton Suspension Bridge to the beautiful grounds of Ashton Court Estate, this year's march will lead you to some of Bristol's best-loved locations.

🐻 Up the Bears! After you finish your walk, cheer on our friends Bristol Bears Rugby as they take on Saracens. As a Rugby March ticket holder, you'll also enjoy 10% off refreshments at Ashton Gate Stadium.

We were delighted to recently welcome Jayde Adams to the Hospice, following her fantastic hosting of our Moments of Light event at the Bristol Beacon.

Jayde spent time on the ward meeting patients and staff, bringing her trademark warmth, humour and compassion to everyone she met. A particularly special moment was her visit with Craig, a fan who has seen her perform several times, including her recent Bristol show. They shared stories about comedy, favourite local venues and their South Bristol roots, with plenty of laughs along the way.

It was a truly meaningful visit. Thank you, Jayde, for taking the time to learn more about our work and for creating such special moments for our patients and staff.

When Amy’s brother Will was diagnosed with a rare type of brain tumour, he was reluctant to accept any help. But staying at the Hospice meant the family could make the most of the precious time they had left together.

Volunteer Driver, Tim, drove Will and his son to a Bristol City football match, giving them the chance and freedom to do something they loved together. Amy said, "Every time my nephew visited the Hospice, the care team would expand the Cuddle Bed so he could climb in with his dad and watch a film. Will would sit in the garden with friends and chat about the ridiculous things they did when they were younger. These little moments meant so much."

We can’t stop time. But with your help we can ease pain, calm fears and take care of admin, so families, just like Will and Amy's, can make the most of it. Visit our website to make a donation today: https://ow.ly/IBwL50Yv7Yx

Moments of Light ✨We still can’t quite get over this special evening at Bristol Beacon. It was a heartwarming night of music, dance, laughs and light.

Our incredible host Jayde Adams guided us through the evening, which started with a beautiful rendition of 'Here Comes the Sun' from City of Bristol Choir and our very own St Peter's Hospice Choir. We were treated to incredible dance performances from both TropicanDance and AE Dance + Fitness and an emotional display from Companion Voices Bristol, who sing for people nearing the end of life. We had more music from the joyful The Ambling Band and an impromptu song from Jayde herself - who blew everyone away.

Jayde spoke to our Hospice at Home Team Leader, KC, and Ed, whose mum was supported by the Hospice, which reminded us of why the evening was so important. It was brought to a close by St Peter's Hospice Choir and City of Bristol Choir, who joined forces again to bring us the first ever performance of Lighting up Lives - a piece specially commissioned for the evening.

A huge thank you to all our performers who brought such light to the evening. Thank you also to everyone who came to watch, Bristol Beacon and Bristol Light Festival for all your support. And thank you to Ciara Hillyer Photo and Flynn Guard Photography whose photos perfectly capture the evening.

Ezra's Welsh marathon challenge 🏃

In April 2023 Ezra's mum, Lara, was diagnosed with cancer.

"She was my rock and my biggest supporter," says Ezra. As she became more ill and neared the end of her life, she was cared for at our Inpatient Unit.

"The incredible care she received was better than we could have ever hoped for."

Ezra wanted to give back to the Hospice and pay tribute to Lara, who he describes as "the most incredible person". Today, he's lacing up his running shoes and taking on Great Welsh Marathon in Pembrey Country Park, Wales.

He credits his mum's love of sport and fitness as the inspiration behind his marathon challenge and he's already raised double his £1,000 target.

"The run comes the day before the anniversary of her passing, so I am sure my emotions will be high but her presence around me and in my heart will be stronger."

Head to our story to find out more about Ezra's challenge. Fancy taking on your own? We've got running spots in Bristol, the UK and beyond. Visit https://ow.ly/jfLo50Ypx8j.
