🌍 World Day of Social Justice – 20 February

Today we recognise World Day of Social Justice, a day that highlights the importance of fairness, equality and dignity for everyone.

Social justice in healthcare means working to reduce inequalities, listening to diverse voices, and ensuring everyone can access the care and support they need — regardless of background, identity or circumstances.

At Bridge View Medical, we are committed to creating an inclusive, respectful and welcoming environment for all our patients and communities.

Together, we can continue working towards a healthier and fairer society.

For Patients that use our Marksbury Road site please see below information from Bristol City Council.

School Street at Oasis Academy Marksbury Road

School Streets aim to make it easier and safer for children and their families to walk, wheel, cycle and scoot to school by improving road safety outside the school gates.

Bristol City Council is proposing to turn a section of Oakhill Drive, from the junction with Marksbury Road up to the school car park gates (marked in green), into a permanent walking, wheeling, cycling and scooting-only zone. This would mean the road is permanently closed to all vehicles except emergency services.

Please note, the proposed closure would be in place 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.

Bollards would be installed at Oakhill Drive’s junction with Marksbury Road and another bollard before the school car park gates (marked in green).

We would also introduce a timed closure on Oakhill Drive from the bollard up to the junction with Timsbury Road (marked in orange). No vehicles would be permitted to enter this section of Oakhill Drive from 8.20am to 8.45am and from 3.10pm and 3.40pm.

Emergency service vehicles would continue to have access to the full closure zone.

We will also be at the school gates on:

Wednesday 4th March from 2:45pm – 3:45pm
Tuesday 17th March from 8:30am – 9:30am

We would like to hear your views on the proposals and are inviting you to take part in a short survey. To find out more about the proposed scheme, including a list of frequently asked questions, please visit travelwest.info/OasisAcademyMarksbury.

Please visit https://www.smartsurvey.co.uk/s/OasisAcademyMarksbury/ to complete the survey online from Monday 16th February. The survey will end on Monday 23 March.

If you need the survey in another format, such as a paper copy, please contact Bristol City Council by emailing schoolstreets@bristol.gov.uk or phoning 0117 903 6449.

💛 Children’s Mental Health Week 2026 💛
Building Stronger Foundations

This week we’re supporting Children’s Mental Health Week, a time to shine a light on the importance of children and young people’s emotional wellbeing.

Strong mental health foundations are built through:
🧱 feeling safe and supported
🧱 trusted relationships with adults
🧱 opportunities to talk, play, learn and grow
🧱 being listened to and believed

Every child’s mental health matters — and small, everyday actions can make a big difference. Checking in, creating space for conversations, and showing understanding helps children feel secure and valued.

If you’re worried about your child or a young person’s mental wellbeing, support is available. You can speak to a GP, school staff, or access local and national mental health services.

💬 Let’s keep building stronger foundations together — for now and for the future.

🌐 Safer Internet Day 2026 🌐

Today we’re supporting Safer Internet Day, which promotes safer and more positive use of the internet for everyone — especially children and young people.

The online world can be a great place to learn, connect and have fun, but it’s important to:
🔐 protect personal information
💬 think before sharing or commenting
👀 talk about anything that feels worrying or uncomfortable
🤝 treat others with kindness and respect online

Parents and carers play a vital role in helping children stay safe online by keeping conversations open, setting boundaries, and knowing where to get support if concerns arise.

If you or your child need advice about online safety, help is available through schools, trusted organisations, and your GP.

💻 Let’s work together to create a safer, kinder internet for everyone.

🧪 National HIV Testing Week 🧪

This week is National HIV Testing Week, a reminder of how important regular testing is for our health and wellbeing.

✔️ HIV testing is quick, confidential and free
✔️ Most people with HIV live long, healthy lives with treatment
✔️ Knowing your status means you can get the right care early — and protect others too

Many people with HIV have no symptoms, so the only way to know is to test. Testing is a normal part of looking after your sexual health, whatever your age, gender or sexuality.

If you’re unsure about testing or would like advice, support is available — please speak to a member of our team or visit NHS sexual health services for more information.

💬 Looking after your sexual health is looking after your overall health.

💙 Time to Talk Day 💙

Today is Time to Talk Day, a reminder that talking about mental health can make a real difference.

A simple conversation — checking in with a friend, sharing how you’re feeling, or listening without judgement — can help break down stigma and remind people they’re not alone.

🗣️ You don’t have to have the right words.
🤍 You don’t have to “fix” anything.
👂 Sometimes, just listening is enough.

If you’re struggling, reaching out is a sign of strength — and support is available. And if someone opens up to you today, thank you for being there.

Let’s keep the conversation going, today and every day.

🎗️ World Cancer Day – 4 February 🎗️

Today we stand together on World Cancer Day to raise awareness, show support, and remember everyone affected by cancer — those living with it, those who have survived, and those we have lost.

Early diagnosis, prevention, and access to the right support can save lives. Attending screening appointments, knowing the signs and symptoms, and seeking advice early are all important steps.

💬 If you’re worried about a symptom, please don’t ignore it — contact us for advice.
🤍 If cancer has touched your life, you are not alone. Support is available for patients, families and carers.

Together, we can help reduce the impact of cancer and support one another with compassion and understanding.

🟣 Sexual Abuse & Sexual Violence Awareness Week 🟣

This week we recognise Sexual Abuse and Sexual Violence Awareness Week, a time to raise awareness, challenge stigma, and remind survivors that it is not their fault — and they are not alone.

Sexual abuse and sexual violence can affect anyone, regardless of age, gender, background or circumstances. The impact can be long-lasting, both physically and emotionally, and support is available.

💬 If you have been affected — recently or in the past — help is available. You deserve to be listened to, believed and supported.

If you feel able, please reach out to trusted support services or speak to a healthcare professional. Support can be accessed confidentially and at your own pace.

📞 If you are in immediate danger, please call 999.
📞 You can also contact NHS 111 or specialist sexual violence support services for advice and care.

💜 It’s not OK. We believe survivors.

Parenting can be incredibly rewarding — but it can also be exhausting, overwhelming and lonely at times. Today is a reminder that parents’ mental health matters too.

Looking after your own wellbeing isn’t selfish — it’s essential. Whether you’re feeling stressed, anxious, low, or simply worn out, you’re not alone and support is available.

💬 If you’re struggling:

Talk to someone you trust

Take small moments for yourself where you can

Reach out for professional support if things feel too much

At Bridge View Medical, we’re here to support parents and families — please don’t hesitate to contact us if you need help with your mental wellbeing.

💚 Caring for yourself helps you care for others.

⏰ A gentle reminder about appointment times ⏰

We kindly ask all patients to please arrive on time for your appointments.

Recently, many appointments have been affected by late arrivals, which can unfortunately lead to:
• appointments needing to be rescheduled
• longer waiting times for other patients
• our nursing and clinical teams running behind

Arriving on time helps us:
✔️ give you the full time you need
✔️ keep clinics running smoothly
✔️ provide the best possible care for everyone

If you think you may be late or can no longer attend, please let us know as soon as possible so we can offer the appointment to another patient.

Thank you for your understanding and for helping us look after our patients and staff 💙
