Flipping good fun🥞🎈

We’ve had a day full of entertainment today at Ladden View!! We kicked off the day with a group activity of “Balloon Volleyball”, which always triggers plenty of smiles and laughter, and this afternoon we had a “Pancake Flipping Competition” followed by “DIY Pancakes”🥞 We’ve had a blast😁

A massive thank you to our Head Chef for cooking endless amounts of pancakes for our lovely residents to have a “flip off”🥞 They were delicious and went down a right treat😋

Pancake Day is a annual tradition and can serve such an important and nostalgic atmosphere in a care home environment. The smells and tastes of pancakes can bring back memories for residents from their younger years, triggering conversations of cherished memories and family traditions.

Pancake flipping, even from a seated position can keep residents physically and mentally engaged; and pancake decorating allows for creativity and independence, which in a care home setting is a vital component of leading fulfilling lives.

Happy Valentine’s Day from Ladden View🌹💕

We’ve had a wonderful couple of days celebrating all things LOVE❤️

We kicked off our weekend of love with a Valentine’s Party on Friday organised and hosted by Pollyanna, our Lifestyle Lead, with a selection of yummy heart shaped sweet treats created by our incredible kitchen team. A big shout out to our wonderful Second Chef, Jennie, for her dedication to all things “hearts”, when it came to the sweet treats💕 As well as a fantastic performance from Samantha Montini, who dedicated her beautifully sung set to songs about love💕🎶🧁

Today, we enjoyed a delicious Valentine’s Day Lunch made by our amazing Head Chef, Jamie, and his brilliant team🍴💕

A supportive, caring and loving environment in a care home promotes security and safety for residents and can combat loneliness, developing joy and companionship, as well as loving and nurturing relationships❤️

Friday Bingo, with a fiery twist🔥🚒

Every Friday is “Bingo Friday” at Ladden View Care Home, but today we had a few surprise guests who popped by for a coffee and insisted on hosting our game.

A massive thank you to the brilliant gents of Avon Fire & Rescue Services who hosted our Friday Bingo Club, and crowned our winner this week🏆🚒

We are so lucky to have created such positive relationships with our blue-light teams around the country, meaning they take time out of their busy days to create special moments like this, that our residents will treasure✨

A fun packed day🎶🎈🎯

From hand eye coordination games to a musical sing and dance, we’ve had a wonderful day at Ladden View✨

Music is so important for those living with dementia as it can stimulate cognitive function and can trigger emotional memories. As well as this, music creates a joyful and engaging atmosphere that boosts moods and enhances social interaction🎶

Hand eye coordination games are also very important to maintain and improve dexterity and can help improve mental alertness, which is crucial for those living with dementia.

National Pizza Day🍕

At Ladden View, we have celebrated National Pizza Day, by hosting our own “Pizza Party”. We had so much fun making our own mini pizzas to enjoy for dinner😋🍴🍕

A huge thank you to our ever amazing kitchen team for our homemade pizza dough and preparing a delicious selection of toppings for our lovely residents to choose from😋

Pizza making is a great sensory activity that promotes independence by empowering the residents to choose their own toppings and get creative, improves cognitive function, decision making and social interaction among residents.

Spreading The Love💕

We had a lovely crafty afternoon at Ladden View today, making Valentines Cards to send to Care Homes around the UK🌍💕

It’s so important to spread love and kindness not to your loved ones, but to everyone. Acts of kindness can boost serotonin and dopamine, reduce stress and combats depression and loneliness💕

Always show and spread love to everyone you come into contact with, not just on Valentines Day🥰

Balloon Volleyball🎈🏐

Today we enjoyed a fantastic morning, partaking in a balloon volleyball seated exercise activity ran by Pollyanna🎈

Balloon volleyball is a great activity, which is low-impact, that provides significant physical, social and mental benefits, including for those living with dementia and who have limited mobility. It’s a great activity that encourages arm mobility, upper body strength and stretching.

Balloon volleyball is also great for hand eye-coordination, improves reaction time and mental alertness.

One of our ladies said: “it was a barrel of laughs” and another lady said “isn’t it so brilliant, how much fun you can have with balloons”.

Scottish Taste Testing🏴󠁧󠁢󠁳󠁣󠁴󠁿

To celebrate Burns Night on Sunday, Pollyanna hosted an afternoon taste testing session with a selection of classic Scottish sweet and savoury snacks, and tasters of Irn Bru to wash it all down with🥤🍪

From Tunnocks Caramel Wafers to Cheese Oatcakes, the residents enjoyed tucking in and sampling some traditional Scottish snacks, whilst listening to a Scottish playlist of music🎶

Taste testing is a great person-centred activity. It is a great interactive and social activity, that’s encourages conversation and social connection between residents.

As well as this, taste testing can trigger positive and nostalgic memories, which is particularly beneficial for emotional stability in residents living with dementia.
