Being Mindful

Being Mindful BAMBA registered teacher offering MBSR and Frantic World mindfulness courses for groups, businesses Also information about mindfulness courses, and events.

Mindfulness-based Stress Reduction (MBSR) and Finding Peace in a Frantic World courses taught by a registered and experienced teacher with a masters degree in teaching mindfulness-based approaches. Robust science shows how mindfulness helps us to cultivate greater awareness of unhelpful thinking patterns of the mind, and more importantly, how to work skilfully with them. Conscious awareness means we can place our attention where we choose, rather than it be dragged all over the place. Thus, we recover from stress more rapidly and build resilience, which creates more space for us to enjoy the good things in life. Below you'll find useful articles and links about mindful meditation practice and how to maintain it.

Does anyone in Bristol have a need for either this broken Epson WF-2530 printer or the numerous inks pictured?

It worked fine until this error message appeared on it 'Printer Error' and apparently you have to talk to Epson to deal with it. I don't wish to put myself through that so out it goes.

Free to anyone who can find a cheeky fix for it or just use the inks. Collection from BS30 9BT

It really tests my mindfulness when built in obsolescence shows itself like this ;-)

Life is Beautiful - let's live it with less stress and more joy!
This 8-week course is designed to help us deal mindfully with the turmoil, frustration, and confusion we're experiencing these days.
It starts at 6:30pm to 8:15pm on Monday 25 April and runs over eight consecutive Mondays at Kambe House on Portland Square, in the heart of Bristol.

Invest in yourself as we head into summer. Take time away from screens and technology to explore how to live your life with less stress and more joy. Whatever challenges you face. You’ll learn alongside new friends and Simon Barnes, an experienced mindfulness teacher, trainer and supervisor of other teachers.

At the time of writing six out of ten places are available. Book your place now with a £50 deposit. The full cost of the course is £200 and the £50 payment secures a place. The remainder is due before the course starts, or later by special arrangement - we appreciate budgets can be tight these days!

Don't Rush!
Deciding whether mindfulness is right for you, or if it's a good time to do it, can be difficult. So we include a free interview to describe what the course entails and answer any questions you may have. The orientation is an opportunity for us both to be clear that the course is right for you and usually takes aroud 30 minutes. If you then decide it's not for you we will refund you in full.

What do I need to know?
You will need to purchase a copy of the book that accompanies this course, Mindfulness: Finding Peace in a Frantic World. It can be found in all good book stores for around £14.

An imagined letter from Covid19...

Stop. Just stop.
It is no longer a request. It is a mandate.
We will help you.

We will bring the supersonic, high speed merry-go-round to a halt
We will stop
the planes
the trains
the schools
the malls
the meetings
the frenetic, furied rush of illusions and “obligations” that keep you from hearing our
single and shared beating heart,
the way we breathe together, in unison.
Our obligation is to each other,
As it has always been, even if, even though, you have forgotten.

We will interrupt this broadcast, the endless cacophonous broadcast of divisions and distractions,
to bring you this long-breaking news:
We are not well.
None of us; all of us are suffering.
Last year, the firestorms that scorched the lungs of the earth
did not give you pause.
Nor the typhoons in Africa,China, Japan.
Nor the fevered climates in Japan and India.
You have not been listening.
It is hard to listen when you are so busy all the time, hustling to uphold the comforts and conveniences that scaffold your lives.
But the foundation is giving way,
buckling under the weight of your needs and desires.
We will help you.
We will bring the firestorms to your body
We will bring the fever to your body
We will bring the burning, searing, and flooding to your lungs
that you might hear:
We are not well.

Despite what you might think or feel, we are not the enemy.
We are Messenger. We are Ally. We are a balancing force.
We are asking you:
To stop, to be still, to listen;
To move beyond your individual concerns and consider the concerns of all;
To be with your ignorance, to find your humility, to relinquish your thinking minds and travel deep into the mind of the heart;
To look up into the sky, streaked with fewer planes, and see it, to notice its condition: clear, smoky, smoggy, rainy? How much do you need it to be healthy so that you may also be healthy?
To look at a tree, and see it, to notice its condition: how does its health contribute to the health of the sky, to the air you need to be healthy?
To visit a river, and see it, to notice its condition: clear, clean, murky, polluted? How much do you need it to be healthy so that you may also be healthy? How does its health contribute to the health of the tree, who contributes to the health of the sky, so that you may also be healthy?

Many are afraid now.
Do not demonize your fear, and also, do not let it rule you. Instead, let it speak to you—in your stillness,
listen for its wisdom.
What might it be telling you about what is at work, at issue, at risk, beyond the threats of personal inconvenience and illness?
As the health of a tree, a river, the sky tells you about quality of your own health, what might the quality of your health tell you about the health of the rivers, the trees, the sky, and all of us who share this planet with you?

Stop.
Notice if you are resisting.
Notice what you are resisting.
Ask why.

Stop. Just stop.
Be still.
Listen.
Ask us what we might teach you about illness and healing, about what might be required so that all may be well.
We will help you, if you listen.

Here's an interesting video about mindfulness by Saki Santorelli. He co-founded the 8-week mindfulness-based stress reduction (MBSR) course with Jon Kabat-Zinn 40 years ago.

It's a joy to listen to well established and experienced teachers like Saki. No matter how much we think we know ourselves and our mind, there's always room for a new enlightenment.

Mindfulness Courses & Training

I have a Masters in teaching mindfulness and am registered with the UK Mindfulness Teacher’s Network, which requires me to follow their best practice guidelines.

I teach mindfulness courses in Bristol to groups, individuals, schools and in the workplace. Mindfulness is known to reduce stress and anxiety. It also helps us to be more present with what’s actually going on in our life, which supports us in making wiser decisions at home, at work, in relationship with others, and about how we live our life. Courses run throughout the year. Get in touch for more information.
