We’re closing our series of successful Core Funding grant recipients with two final, fantastic charities:

⭐ We Care Home Improvements ⭐

We Care Home Improvements is a values-led, not-for-profit Home Improvement Agency with nearly 40 years’ experience helping people live safely and independently at home. Operating across Bristol, BANES, and Gloucestershire, the organisation is deeply embedded in local health pathways and trusted by professionals across health and social care.

⭐ West of England Rural Network ⭐

WERN works to build sustainable, resilient, and inclusive rural communities across the West of England. The charity supports locally led initiatives and ensures rural needs are recognised by policymakers and service providers.

That wraps up our celebration of the inspiring Core Funding grant recipients! Each of these organisations is making a real difference in our community, and we’re so proud to support them. A huge thank you to everyone who applied.

Continuing our celebration of our Core Funding grant recipients, we’re proud to shine the spotlight on two more incredible organisations we are supporting.

⭐ Bristol After Stroke ⭐

Bristol After Stroke is a small, independent charity that has supported people to rebuild their lives after stroke across Bristol and South Gloucestershire for over 43 years. Its person-centred services include home-based support, peer-led groups and cafés, physical rehabilitation courses, and emotional support through counselling and mentoring.

⭐ Swan Advice Network (in B&NES) ⭐

Swan Transport has supported older, disabled, and low-income residents in Bath and North East Somerset for over 40 years. Since 2001, its Volunteer Transport Service has been at the heart of its work, with volunteers using their own cars to help older people reach healthcare appointments, social groups, and local amenities.

We’re inspired by their commitment and proud to support their amazing work.

Today we’re proud to introduce two more incredible organisations we have awarded Core Funding to.

⭐ Age UK Bristol ⭐

Age UK Bristol works to improve the lives of older adults in the city by offering support, empowerment, and advocacy. They collaborate with other organisations and champion the interests of older people through a wide range of services.

⭐ Age UK South Gloucestershire ⭐

Age UK South Gloucestershire is an independent charity supporting some of the most vulnerable older people in the county. Over the past two years, they have experienced a dramatic rise in demand for their services, more than doubling, placing significant strain on their dedicated staff.

We’re honoured to support these amazing organisations and the positive impact they’re making every day.

We’re thrilled to announce we have awarded seven incredible organisations Core Funding to support their vital work.

Research and ongoing engagement consistently highlight that core funding is the most urgent requirement for many charities. This fund reflects our commitment to building communities where older people flourish, supported by a strong and resilient infrastructure.

Over the next few days, we’ll be sharing more on each organisation. First up, we’re shining the spotlight on Alive Activities. ⭐

Alive Activities is a leading UK charity dedicated to enriching the lives of older people and their carers, especially those living with dementia. Through innovative projects and meaningful activities in care homes and communities, Alive fosters engagement, physical wellbeing, and connection.

Stay tuned over the next few days as we reveal the rest of the inspiring recipients!

Supporting the lives of older people in the West of England has been part of the vision of the St Monica Trust since it began over 100 years ago. Today our charitable giving team helps tackle a variety of issues by distributing hundreds of thousands of pounds to individuals, families and organisations across Bristol, South Gloucestershire, North Somerset and Bath & North-East Somerset.

Our aim is to help older people live independently in their own community for as long as possible. We do this by helping individuals with financial support through our Individual Giving Fund.

The feedback we receive from the recipients of these grants and their support workers demonstrates the importance of this work and the impact it can have on individuals' lives.

It was wonderful to have ITV News West Country with us yesterday filming a story about the launch of Hundred Not Out, our centenary beer.🍺

This special brew is made with local hops that more than 150 residents from our villages and care homes, along with their families, colleagues, and volunteers, helped plant, nurture, and harvest. A huge thank you to Hoppiness Brews, Alive Activities, and Wiper and True for helping us make this beer a reality. You can now buy Hundred Not Out online from Wiper and True's website or enjoy it in our restaurants.

Our gratitude also goes to reporter Victoria and cameraperson Claire, who joined us to capture and share this very special moment.

If you missed the ITV feature, here’s the link to hear from our residents as they share their thoughts, feelings, and pride in being part of this wonderful project. 💛 https://www.itv.com/watch/news/meet-the-pensioners-who-are-working-hard-to-make-bristols-new-beer/c45vdvj
