Actions speak louder than words 🌍

Happy Earth Day!

At Neighbourly, we believe local action is the driving force of environmental change, and our partnership with Hays demonstrates exactly what is possible when corporate purpose meets community need.

Since the launch of Hays Gets Neighbourly, we’ve seen incredible levels of group and individual engagement in environmental volunteering, resulting in 252 dedicated events where 1,688 volunteers have rolled up their sleeves and got stuck into making a tangible difference. From litter picks and green space restoration to vital conservation and reuse projects, Hays colleagues have contributed a massive 7,989 hours to protecting our planet at a local level. These aren't just numbers; they represent a direct response to the real-world needs of the charities and community groups we support.

As we approach Hays’ seasonal volunteering peak next month, the momentum is only growing, with nearly 400 additional hours of environmental activity already on the horizon.

Moving into a new tenancy after homelessness is a huge step, but an empty house isn't immediately a home.

Fresh Start is changing that in Edinburgh. They provide "starter packs" of essentials and help turn houses into homes through their decorating services and community pantries. Their goal? To move people from the chaos of the streets to the stability of a community.

Through Neighbourly, partners like the B&Q Foundation and Sainsbury's have provided vital grants and product donations to fuel this mission. 🛠️ 🤝

We’re ending March on a high! As one of the UK’s founding B Corps, we are incredibly proud of our 151.0 B Impact Score. At Neighbourly, being a B Corp isn’t just a badge - it’s the engine behind everything we do.

As we wrap up B Corp Month, we’re celebrating the incredible message our platform sends: Using business as a force for good means delivering tangible social value. We are especially proud to mark the end of the month by hitting a landmark £2 billion in social value delivered, proof that when businesses and communities connect, the impact can be monumental.

Based in Spennymoor, Team Solan Foundation provides fast, bespoke support for those impacted by cancer. Since 2019, Neighbourly has helped them access the food parcels and funding needed to run their community kitchen and hub.

A B&Q Ireland Community Day is worth its weight in gold ☘️

Every year, B&Q stores across Ireland get involved with the Community Days volunteering programme. Most recently, Focus Ireland was supported by fantastic teams of volunteers from stores in Dublin and Waterford.

Here is what they had to say about one of the projects:

“B&Q have been amazing supporters of Focus Ireland for a number of years through their Community Days, giving their time and skills to improve many of our services across Ireland. Their volunteers have created real, meaningful change for our staff and the customers we support who may be experiencing homelessness or at risk of losing their home.

Last year, their team took on a project at our head office in Dublin, transforming an unused section of our outdoor car park into a bright and welcoming space. Through planting, painting, and adding new seating, they turned an overlooked area into a place where staff can step outside, take a break, and connect with colleagues. We are truly grateful for B&Q’s continued partnership.”

This Food Waste Action Week, we’re highlighting how our partnership with Aldi UK does more than reduce waste; it creates a vital lifeline for those who need it most. By redirecting surplus food, we empower local organisations to provide reliable access to healthy meals and essentials.

The Raft Foundation - Rossendale's Foodbank put the importance of this into words:
"It’s our privilege to help connect your donations with the people of our community referred to RAFT in need of support to access food. Working together we’re making a difference."

💪 Food Waste Action Week is well underway, and our longest-standing partner, Marks and Spencer, has set the gold standard for community support through surplus donations.

Last year, we hit an incredible milestone together: 100 million meals provided to local good causes across our 10-year partnership. 100 million plates of food on tables, and thousands of tonnes of good food saved from waste. 🌍🤝

Chapelgreen Community Hub, Sheffield has received surplus from M&S for over four years. Of the food they receive through Neighbourly, they said "It’s a godsend. Without it, we wouldn’t get through. We can make meals at least 4 or 5 times a week for a family of five”, which demonstrates the impact surplus can have on families in the local community.

The Canalside Community Fridge is a simple but powerful project tackling two problems: Food waste and food insecurity. By redistributing fresh food that would otherwise be thrown away, they support local families while protecting the planet.
