We hear this a lot in January.

“I’ve always gone hard when I get back into it.”
“I don’t want to lose momentum.”
“I’ll just push through and see how it goes.”

And sometimes… you get away with it.

Until you don’t.

Your body doesn’t remember what you used to do.
It responds to what you’ve done recently.

So if December was quieter (and for most people it was), your joints and tendons are starting from there.
Not from last summer.
Not from your best-ever fitness.

Another common one:
“I don’t want to overthink it.”

Fair.
But dealing with a knee, achilles or back issue for the next 6–8 weeks is a lot more thinking than easing in now.

This isn’t about being cautious or soft.
It’s about staying active long enough for it to actually work.

If you’re on the fence about whether to keep pushing or pull things back slightly… that hesitation is worth listening to.

Don’t go from zero to five sessions a week.

We see this every single January in the clinic.
Same story. Different body.

“I used to do this years ago.”
“I’ll just push through it.”
“It’ll loosen up.”

Sometimes it does.
Sometimes it really doesn’t.

Your tendons, joints and nervous system need time to catch up.
Your motivation has sprinted ahead.
Your tissues haven’t.

Especially if you’re:
• Getting back into running
• Returning to the gym after a break
• Playing sport again after Christmas
• Sitting at a desk all week then going hard at weekends

If something’s been niggling since you restarted… don’t ignore it.

Small tweaks now save big problems later.

There’s something about January that makes people think everything resets.

But your body doesn’t know it’s the 1st of January. It just knows how it feels.

Thank you to all of you that supported our clinic this year. It’s been our privilege to look after you.

😞 Shoulders creeping up without you noticing.

So feedback like this really matters.

When someone stands up after a session and their posture has visibly changed, that’s not luck.

✅ That’s tension letting go.
