Not your standard active recovery, following a tough coastal path race 🏄🏼‍♂️⛰️🏃🏻‍♂️

Was pleasantly surprised that my legs didn’t cramp up while trying to catch the waves, so that’s a win all round..! 🥇😁

And the obligatory post-surf tomato soup to warm back up with 🍅😄🥣

Happy with that 😃

Despite yesterday’s race being the slowest time I’ve run on this course, my focus was getting round it & not DNF’ing 🏁

After spraining an ankle playing footie several weeks ago, then having some calf tweaks as a secondary effect, I wasn’t wanting to “blow-up” in a race where there are only 2 mid-race checkpoints…😰

It’s always mentally tough to not RACE a course you know, but the psychology has to shift to ensure I can get back to running properly again (especially as my running has been nominal these last few weeks) 🧠

After a significant post-race recovery snooze 😴 (just like the professionals do!), I headed back to Rhossilli beach for a more chilled out recovery walk 🚶🏻‍♂️🤩

Pleased to say that everything is back to normal & training can resume (along with playing footie…⚽️😉😜)

If you’d like to improve your running - whatever level you’re at, whether a C25K, to sub 3-hr marathon times, injury rehab or prevention, let me know & I’m here to support that journey 🤩

Kinda looking forward to the Gower Half later… 🫤🏃🏻‍♂️🏞️

While I do love this race along the coastal path & with great views 😍

I’m still a little concerned about how my ankle & calf will hold out… 😵‍💫

While they feel alright on the flat, the technical terrain may have other ideas 🙄

And, given that I’ve been pretty much off running these last few weeks to allow the recovery, I’m definitely not “race fit” !🤦🏻‍♂️😩

Hey-ho, we’ll see what happens…! 😬

Yesterday was spent back in the homelands, celebrating the life of my old footie manager, Colin Place ⚽️

Colin, and eldest son Martin (head coach), have certainly been a positive influence for me from an early age 👦🏼

Instilling a physical work ethic & never give up attitude that has stayed with me throughout life - always striving to be that bit better than the opposition 📈

And of course Matt, youngest son & team mate, who likewise pushed me, as I pushed him, to be better physically versions of ourselves through healthy cooperative competition 🏁🥇

It’s hardly surprising I became a PT..! 🏋🏼‍♂️

A great opportunity as well, to catch up again with some of my old team mates, who were also able pay their respects - some of whom I’ve not seen for the best part of 30years..! 👴🏼

And the banter was still as quality as when we left off! 😆

Such was Colin’s passion for football, rumour has it that he’s already setting up “Pearly Gates Utd” ! 😄

Gone but not forgotten. RIP 🕊️⚽️

🔔I can hardly keep up with all these PB’s!🤩🔔

The “Lighting Bolt 10k” in Chippenham, was the scene of Natasha’s triumph last weekend 🤗

A self confessed; “…I usually start races too fast & end up paying for it later…” runner, the race psychology & physiology was very much a factor in our training 🧠👨🏻‍🔬

Natasha certainly knows the value of putting in a hard graft in the gym, to improve her speed & muscular endurance 🏃🏼‍♀️💨

But talking through the psychology of pacing, backed up by the science of the different energy systems & fuelling consequences at play during a race, really helped focus the mind on race day 🏁🥇

And the result… Speaks for itself 🥳

Running is often so much more than just putting one foot in front of the other - especially when you’re chasing PB’s & looking to improve 👣📈

🔔 A course PB has been smashed !🔔

And what a feeling that is ! 🤗

Congratulations to Matt took off a whopping 10minutes from his previous PB at the “Weston Super Half” on Sunday⏱️👀

Over the last couple of months, Matt has had a combo of 1:1 & 2:1 training with me (alongside Becky) where we’ve built on his📈;

🦵🏼Muscular Endurance (Apart from the obvious endurance runner requirements, improved muscular endurance also supports recovery between runs, enabling a higher training volume & better overall performance)

⚖️ Balance (Vital for the varied terrain of sand, trails & road at Weston! Good balance helps us runners maintain proper form & posture, which means better agility, control & a smoother running gait. Thereby improving speed by minimizing wasted energy)

💪🏼 Core Strength (This stability allows for more efficient transfer of force from the legs while running, improving stride length, frequency & faster running)

So if you’d like to improve your running - whatever level you’re at, whether a C25K, to sub 3-hr marathon times, injury rehab or prevention, let me know & I’m here to support that journey 🤩

🔔Ring the PB bell ! 🔔

They’re all at it these days..! 🤩

Magic stuff from Rhi at the Oxford Half Marathon a couple of weeks ago as she bagged herself a PB of 1hr 32mins 🏃🏼‍♀️🔥

Rhi has been 2:1 training with me (& her “partner in crime”, Katy) for the last few months, and we’ve been developing her;

🏋🏼‍♂️ Strength (helps maintain a faster pace by improving running economy, allowing us runners to use less energy at higher speeds)

🚀 Power (the combination of strength & speed, enabling us runners to exert maximum force in minimal time)

🧠 Conditioning (involves cardiovascular fitness, muscular endurance & recovery. The better our conditioning, the more we can sustain higher intensities for longer periods)

A great day of running & a well earned celebratory pint indeed! 🍺

Huge kudos (& a happy birthday!) to my client, Callum, for his incredible marathon achievement yesterday 😯🤯🎂

Having spent around 9 months travelling & doing nominal running during that time, it was inevitable that he’d lose some pace 🐰➡️🐢

Over the last few months, he’s got back into his strength & conditioning training with me, to complement his running programme 🏋🏼‍♂️📝

And the hard work paid off as he aimed for 2hrs 50mins at the Abingdon Marathon, but ended up with a blistering 2hrs 46mins! 🥇🥳

Absolute result! 💯🔥

🛎️Ring the PB bell ! Day 4 of “Celebrating success” 🏃🏻‍♂️🥳

When Emma first started training with me, she had a few joint issues / concerns that were inhibiting both her training, as well as her running 🤕😢

While initially highly frustrating for her, we were able to work round these sticking points & continue to develop her strength & conditioning 🏋🏼‍♂️🤸🏻‍♂️

As a result, Emma bagged herself a 10km PB at the Two Tunnels 10km at the weekend 🚂🛎️🏅

By working together, the plan worked - simple as that. It’s always a two way process & the more we put in, the more we get out of it 📈🎯

“Celebrating success” - Day 3… Brings us a bucket list goal, as Martin completed his first ever marathon 🏃🏻‍♂️🥳

The Bristol-Bath trail marathon took centre stage and, while time & pace wasn’t a priority, Martin’s focus was to get the job done 🏞️✅

We created a progressive training plan that took into consideration his working life (& summer holidays!), being a husband & father of two 🤹🏼‍♂️

Martin also trained with me in the studio to improve his strength for more efficient running, as well as conditioning to help reduce the risk of injury 🏋🏼‍♂️

The race went without a hitch, he was pleased with his result (4hrs 20mins) and he’s vowed never to run again..! 😂 (Until the next time… IYKYK !)

Day 2 of “Celebrating success” with another half marathon PB 🥳🥇

A&E nurse, Becky, is in great form by being focused & getting the job done ⛑️🚨

Used to being under pressure & making multiple vital decisions on a daily basis, Becky also values the importance of prioritising her needs as well☝🏼

Fitting training in when you don’t have a regular work schedule, takes commitment, but is do-able ✅

Not every training session starts in an ideal way; tired from multiple nightshifts / not “up for it” / a particularly stressful shift etc etc 🫨

And yet Becky turns up, does the job & leaves feeling much better than when she arrived ☹️📈😃

All “valid reasons” for bailing out of the session. But we talk through a plan of how the session may need to be adapted, & we keep the plan fluid 🗺️

Consistency is key to getting results 🔑

Celebrating success & starting with a half marathon PB 🥳🥇

Huge congratulations to my PT client, Matt, for nailing a sub-75 min half marathon in Cardiff the other week 🏃🏻‍♂️💨

While already an experienced runner, Matt knew that he needed an extra dimension to his training, to keep him injury free while closing in on his PB target 🎯

Using the right combination (& timing!) of strength training, power training, conditioning & running-specific workouts, we got Matt his reward, despite the less than ideal “always a headwind” conditions! 🤩
