Rumination explained using the Alphabet…

The act of ā€˜ruminating’ is ā€˜effortful’. It’s ā€˜involved’. It’s feels like ā€˜work’. This is what we are trying to get better at spotting & then reduce.

Trying to think and logic your way out of OCD is about as helpful as using a calculator to check your spelling 🫠

The calculator isn’t broken. It’s brilliant at what it does. But spelling isn’t a maths problem, so no matter how hard you try, it cannot give you what you need.

That’s exactly what’s happening when you try to think your way out of OCD.

Your brain isn’t broken. Your reasoning skills aren’t the problem. But OCD is not a logic problem. And treating it like one is keeping you stuck.

Because every time you turn the thought over, weigh up the evidence, try to find the answers you teach your brain that the question is worth solving.

So it keeps asking. A little louder. A little more urgently.

Recovery doesn’t live in the thinking šŸ‘‡šŸ¼

It lives in the moments where you feel the pull to analyse, to reassure, to go over it one more time AND you choose to do something different instead ā¤µļø

My free Rumination Response Scripts give you 15 scripts across 6 types of rumination so you can practice responding differently when the pull to engage hits.

Comment RESPONSE and I’ll send them straight to you šŸ’«
