I'm Zoe, a local Mum to 2 girls aged 10 and 7 years old, and as a busy Mum, I understand that all parents and carers face challenges far too regularly when our little ones become poorly, or have an accident. My 7 year-old is very accident prone, and I am so glad to have my first aid knowledge so I know what to do. Having that knowledge also helps you stay calm, which in turn will help comfort and

reassure your child right when they need it! Our 2-hour baby and child first aid class is suitable for any adults who care for children – parents, grandparents, babysitters, expectant parents and anyone in between! The class is relaxed and friendly, and we cover the following first aid/medical emergency topics - CPR, Choking, Burns & Bleeds, Breaks, Head Bumps, Febrile Convulsions and Meningitis Awareness all for just £25.00 per person!

A study by the UK Obstetric Surveillance System found mortality due to maternal sepsis has increased in the UK and is now the leading cause of direct maternal death.

This eye-opening story is about Lauren who contracted sepsis hours after she was discharged from hospital following the birth of her baby.

Make sure you and your loved ones can spot maternal sepsis – it could save a life. You can read more information on our blog, guest-written by The UK Sepsis Trust , find the link in the comments.

Every year, thousands of infants need medical care for poisoning from products commonly found in and around the home.

Items such as cleaning products, cosmetics, medicines, alcohol and gardening products.

If you are planning some spring cleaning in your home over the coming weeks, make sure you keep products in a secure location, in high cupboards or locked storage so that little hands can’t access easily. Also be careful when you are in the middle of cleaning, that you don’t leave the cleaning product sitting anywhere that could be reached by your child.

Poisoning can happen after swallowing, touching, or breathing in a harmful substance.

Symptoms may take a few hours or days to start, so it’s important to get medical advice quickly if there’s a chance you or someone else could have poisoning.

*Symptoms of poisoning can depend on what caused it, and may include:

Feeling sick or being sick
Diarrhoea
Feeling sleepy
Blurred vision
High temperature, or feeling hot, cold or shivery
Confusion
Difficulty breathing
Seizures (fits)
Loss of consciousness

If you suspect your child might have swallowed something toxic:

⚠️Get medical help immediately, call 111 or 999
⚠️Don’t let your child drink anything
⚠️Don’t make your child sick
⚠️If you know what they have swallowed, try to take a sample to hospital
⚠️Residual chemicals on the skin should be rinsed with plenty of water

Around 1 in 3 pregnant women in the UK have a caesarean birth - are you one of them? What was your experience like?

April is Caesarean Awareness Month. We recently teamed up with the brilliant Midwife Pip to bring you a guide to Caesarean births over on our blog.

You’ll read about Amy, who talked with Pip about her experience of having an emergency C-Section and how it affected her subsequent birth plans, and learn a little about ‘gentle caesarean births’.
