Looking Ahead to an Exciting 2026 for the Community Reds
Good morning all,
Another day, another dollar as they say. I hope you all had a great New Year’s Eve and New Year’s Day, helped by Andy and the boys securing three points at home on New Year’s Eve. 🟥⚽
2026 promises to be an exciting year for the Community Reds.
As it is the start of a new month, I have enclosed the first Action for Happiness Calendar. Yesterday’s activity was to look forward to three things happening in 2026. As we say farewell to 2025 and look ahead to another busy and exciting year for the Community Reds, it feels like the perfect time to reflect on what lies ahead and the opportunities it will bring.
The three things I am most looking forward to in 2026 are:
Firstly, the launch of the Community Reds as a CIO and the opportunities this will give us. As a CIO, the Community Reds will look to develop further initiatives and opportunities as we continue to Create, Enable, Empower Change — ensuring nobody is left sitting on the bench.
Secondly, the launch of our COBWEBS programme — Creating Opportunities by Work, Education and Building Skills. Working alongside various community partners, and Briton Ferry Llansawel AFC and Briton Ferry Llansawel Ladies, this programme will provide vocational training opportunities and voluntary work placements, helping to build skills and employment opportunities. This is a very exciting development and one that will make a real difference within both our local community and the wider area we serve.
Thirdly, the World Masters Walking Football Cup, taking place at the Renewable Centre Stadium in August. Sixty-five countries from around the globe will come together to showcase this fantastic sport. The tournament will build on the outstanding work already achieved by our Community Reds Briton Ferry Llansawel AFC Walking Football Club.
This time last year, we started with just one lady attending our training sessions. Today, we have two ladies’ teams competing in the Women’s Walking Football League, as well as men’s teams at Under 40s, 50s, and 60s levels. We also have several walking footballers continuing to represent Wales at international matches and tournaments. This is a fantastic achievement and a true credit to the dedication of our coaches and volunteers within the Community Reds.
As you can see, we have no intention of sitting on our laurels. With your continued support, both on and off the field, we will continue to Build on Ability, not Disability, by Working Together.
Best wishes,
The Community Reds
