Dear South Skye Patients,
📣 Do you have a blood pressure monitor belonging to the surgery that is on loan to you and you have completed your measurements?

Please can you return it to Sleat or Broadford surgery as soon as possible as we are running low. The knock on effect is that patients are waiting for a monitor and a delay could prevent patients starting high blood pressure medication.

If you are keen to buy your own meter we would suggest the omron M2. It is currently under £20 on an Argos sale (minus delivery)

Norovirus is a stomach bug that causes diarrhoea and vomiting. It can be very unpleasant, but usually goes away in about 2 days.

You can usually treat yourself at home, but the most important thing is to rest and have lots of fluids.

Over the next few Mondays, we are going to do a series of posts about Non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs) with support of our specialist pharmacist colleagues.

NSAIDs are medications used to:
· relieve pain
· reduce inflammation
· bring down a high temperature (fever)

Some NSAIDs can be bought from pharmacies. Others need a prescription.

Common NSAIDs are ibuprofen, naproxen and diclofenac.

Some NSAIDs are sold over-the-counter but this does not mean they can be used long-term without risk.

Great for pain, but not risk-free. Over time, they can irritate our stomach or affect your kidneys and heart.

Keep following as we’ll be posting more information throughout the next month about staying safe with NSAIDs.

🤔 **Do you know what the Men’s Shed is all about?**

Well let us tell you all about it....

The Men’s Shed is a welcoming, relaxed space where men can come together to socialise, share skills, learn new ones, and enjoy a bit of craic ☕🔨. There’s no pressure and no expectations – just a chance to get out of the house, meet others, and spend time doing practical activities or simply have a chat.

Although we’re busy planning the move to our new building, this is very much still quite a bit of time away as refurbishment is not cheap and funding takes time. We want the building to be water tight and safe before we move in. The good news is that there’s plenty of time for new members to come along and join us now. So, if you’ve ever been curious, or think the Men’s Shed might be for you (or someone you know), feel free to drop in for a cuppa and a chat. New faces are always welcome! 😊

📍 **Where:** The Grower’s Hub, Broadford
(At the back of the industrial estate, near Corry Motors)
🕥 **When:** Wednesdays, **10.30am – 1.00pm**

Here's some of our shedders enjoying one of their many tea breaks 🤣, after helping Callum out with his own project – a lovely new kitchen table – a great example of the support, skills-sharing and teamwork that goes on at the Shed.

SLEAT surgery is open. Physio here too. Please consider your own safety if you do decide to travel to your appointment today. Please note: the surgery car park has not been cleared. There is a gritted path to the door but a lot of deep slush to navigate if you do turn in with your vehicle.

BROADFORD surgery is also open however please be careful on the pavements and in the surgery carpark. The road to the surgery is clear.

The adverse weather over the past few days has made it difficult for everyone in Highland and with weather warnings still in place across the region we are working very hard to minimise the impact.

Safety is our top priority. If you have an appointment please only travel if it's safe to do so. If you can't make it, please let the department know by calling the number on your appointment letter, or contact us on 01463 704000 and they will be happy to reschedule.

Conditions are exceptionally challenging and we are working closely with our partners to make sure everyone across Highland gets the care they need during this time.

The Scottish Ambulance Service has established protocols in situations of adverse weather to ensure emergency transfers can take place.

We are being supported by families and the 4X4 service to ensure that all of the people that are at the most risk are being seen and any individual circumstances are being escalated.

The most significant impacts are being experienced in Caithness and Sutherland. All patients, and their family members, receiving community care in this area, as well as women who are due to give birth in the next two weeks, have been contacted. If you have any concerns at all please contact the service or phone 01463 704000

We are liaising with our other Highland partners (including colleagues in Highland Council roads) to ensure that we can access properties when care is essential.

A huge thank you to our staff, our partners, volunteers and members of the public for their support during this time.

Sleat and Broadford receptions are now closed. With further wintry weather forecast we will post again tomorrow concerning opening at both sites.

05/01/2026

SLEAT surgery is now open however travel is not advised unless essential.

Side roads/lay-bys/driveways are blocked by snow which is being made higher due to gritter lorry ploughing so even if main road is passable you need to consider where to stop/pull in safely if traveling by vehicle.

Snowfall is deep and therefore challenging under foot.

Keep safe!
