Tributes have been paid to Donald MacAskill better known as Dhollan – who has made his final journey home from Skye to his native Isle of Lewis.

Mr MacAskill passed away at the age of 103.

He was Skye’s oldest resident and a much loved member of the community at An Acarsaid care home in Broadford.

Born on the 6th of February 1922 in Flesherin on the Isle of Lewis, he worked alongside his father producing Harris Tweed before later joining the Merchant Navy.

His final crossing was made aboard The Hebrides. As a mark of respect, the ship’s flag was lowered to half mast by Captain Clark.
