🌍💙 World Diabetes Day 💙🌍
This year’s theme is Diabetes and Well-being, with a special focus on Diabetes in the Workplace.
Did you know? 👇
💼 7 in 10 people living with diabetes are of working age
🧠 3 in 4 have experienced anxiety, depression, or another mental health condition because of diabetes
😔 4 in 5 experience diabetes burnout - emotional and physical exhaustion.
Diabetes can affect your whole body, including your feet 👣 and eyes 👁️:
⚡ Nerve damage (Peripheral Neuropathy): Diabetes can damage the nerves in your extremities (hands and feet), which can result in a loss of sensation. You might not be able to feel minor cuts, blisters, or even hot or cold temperatures which could lead to unnoticed injuries that can become serious infections.
👀 Eye damage (Diabetic Retinopathy): Damage to the nerves in your eyes can lead to reduced or impaired vision, which may make it harder to see any minor injuries that have been sustained.
💔 Reduced blood circulation (Ischaemia): Diabetes can impair the blood flow to your extremities. Poor circulation means slower healing, and a decrease in the body’s ability to fight off infections, meaning even small injuries are more likely to lead to big problems.
