My purpose is to help my clients better understand those things that cause them distress or hold them back. Then, through a combination of therapeutic processes and education, enable them to overcome or better cope with them. In focusing on empowering my clients rather than 'just' fixing the immediate, presenting issue I believe that they will leave our sessions better equipped to deal with both future relapse or recurrence and have skills and knowledge potentially applicable to other issues in their lives. I treat each client as an individual, seeing the person first not the problem and I adapt my therapeutic approach and style to suit their personality and unique needs. My website is designed to introduce you to my approach, use of hypnotherapy and other forms of therapy, so you can make an informed decision on whether this type of therapy and our approach is for you. Before I take on a new client we have a consultation, often by phone, to ensure that we both agree that hypnotherapy and my approach is suited to your specific situation. My view is that therapy is a collaborative effort between therapist and the client based on a common goal, trust and respect. This starts here with me being as clear as I can on the service I offer, what is involved and the potential for a successful outcome. I work with clients from all walks of life and specialise in working with performers: musicians, singers, speakers, actors and sports men and women who are looking to overcome performance anxiety or fine tune their mental armoury.

This is what I'm listening to on Audible right now. A great introduction to both the famous Stoic Emperor and the ancient wisdom that underpins modern therapeutic approaches such as Cognitive Behavioural Therapy.

How to Think Like a Roman Emperor

Sad to hear of the passing of Tony Buzan. A personal hero of mine that contributed hugely to the idea that key mental skills can be taught and learnt.

I personally benefitted greatly from his books and have integrated his ideas on memory and speed reading. I have for many years and still use his mind map technique for note taking, organising thoughts, planning and much more.

In my early days as a therapist mind maps offered me a huge improvement over scripts or training notes. By clearly and concisely presenting the key aspects and structure of important therapy techniques they helped me weave my way through the session using my personal style and adapting them seamlessly to the nuances of the specific client.

What a legacy he leaves. Bravo mind maestro.

In my opinion the premier event for hypnotherapists in the UK (or further afield). I'll be there and looking forward to learning, catching up with my friends and peers and putting some more CPD hours in my compliance log.

Somewhat jet lagged after my typhoon delayed return from Japan; I'm spending the afternoon working though the backlog of emails and scheduling client sessions and consultations. And drinking coffee.

So if you are one of the people waiting for me to do something 'on my return' - thank you for your patience and expect me to contact you shortly !

Then I have a presentation to start writing for a Dental CPD Group meeting later this month on the subject of dealing with anxious patients. Already have some great ideas for this.

Delighted to be invited to present to the students and tutors at the Aboyne Cello Festival. A packed room learning about therapy, hypnosis, performer anxiety and approaches to coping with and overcoming stage fright all crammed into an hour and a half....ish.

So, the new website is up, check it out and let me know what you think of the new look and feel. Be nice, I wrote it myself ;-) just need to stop tinkering with it and get on with some other work now....

Generally, people come to see me for hypnotherapy because they feel they have lost control in some area of their life and this is holding them back. They have unwanted emotions, bad habits, unhelpful thoughts that fuel fear, doubt, anxiety. I ask them to consider these ideas:

If your New Year resolution to trim your waistline has or is already going 'pear shaped' perhaps you haven't worked on the crucial third element of successful weight loss - your psychology. My friend and colleague Adam Eason is offering a free coaching session to help put you or the right path.

Did you set yourself the resolution to finally reduce your weight this year? How is it going? A couple of walnuts for breakfast, licked a lettuce leaf for lunch and having soup for dinner? Starving as a result? Can’t stop thinking about chocolate cake? If you are keen to be finally thin forever, the…

If you have made a change and replaced a bad habit with a good one only to find that old habit has crept back in - remember you get to decide if this is a lapse or a relapse. You only fail when you give up.
