Westmeria Counselling Services

Westmeria Counselling Services We were established in 2003 to help people in crisis, or just in need of support, with an emphasis on depression.

There are times when we all need a little help…. We are primarily a voluntary organisation, serving the local community. We were established in 2003 to help people in crisis, or just in need of support, with a particular emphasis on those suffering from depression. It is our aim to reverse the trend of reliance on anti-depressants. Our professional, qualified counsellors offer counselling on a donation basis, helping to make such a vital service both affordable and accessible. Each session lasts for 50 minutes and there is an upper limit of 24 sessions. We also offer mental health support in the work-place, by offering workshops and employee counselling to companies.

We’re incredibly proud to have been featured in The Non-League Paper Francis Duku recent column highlighting mental health in football.

As Francis shared, we're honoured to support around 250 clients each week - yet only 20% of those are men

Together, we’re working to change that.

Mental health is not a weakness, it’s part of our whole wellbeing and no one should have to suffer in silence.

A huge thank you to Francis for helping raise awareness of the importance of accessible, affordable mental health support - especially for men in sport and beyond.

If you need support, we’re here. 💙

💜 Emotional Health Day 💜 Today felt like an important reminder. 💜

A reminder that emotional health isn’t something we should only think about when we’re at breaking point.

It matters every day, in the small moments, in the quiet struggles, and in the times we tell ourselves we’re “fine” when we’re really not.

Because the truth is… so many people are carrying more than we realise.

📌 1 in 4 adults experiences mental health issues
📌 1 in 5 adults has a common mental disorder
📌 20% of people feel anxious most or all of the time
📌 6 in 100 are diagnosed with anxiety every week
📌 Young people’s mental health conditions have doubled since the pandemic

These aren’t just statistics - they’re real people. Friends. Family. Workmates. Neighbours.

So today, we’re sharing a gentle reminder:

✨ Rest is strength, not weakness.
✨ Wellbeing matters just as much.
✨ Your emotions are valid, always.

If you’re struggling, please don’t suffer in silence. Reach out. Talk to someone. You deserve support 💜

Two little words can carry so much: thank you. 💛

Hearing or feeling gratitude can be incredibly powerful - it can remind you that you're seen, that your efforts matter, and that even small steps forward are noticed.

A simple thank you can give encouragement, comfort and a quiet sense of hope - a reminder that you're not alone on your journey.

Sometimes, these two words are more than polite… they’re a lifeline. 💌✨

Today is Time to Talk Day, so why do we often bottle things up inside?

We all have days when thoughts and worries swirl, and we keep them to ourselves, maybe because we don’t want to burden anyone or we think we should cope alone.

Perhaps we say to ourselves, ‘it’s ok, I can do this myself, I will get through it on my own…’.

If this is you, our message is that talking makes a big difference, but it’s not just talking…

It’s also patiently lending an ear to hear – you don’t need to fix, you don’t need to comment, just listen.

If you need to, take just one small step today. Send a message, make a call, or simply tell someone, “I need to talk.” You don’t have to have all the answers. You just have to start. 💙

Let’s create a space where everyone feels heard and supported. Your voice matters.

We want to take a moment to recognise an incredible local business making a real difference in our community.

Woodchurch Plumbing & Heating generously support Westmeria by popping in to help with small jobs (all at no charge) to support a mental health charity that’s close to their hearts. Their kindness and community spirit truly make a difference.

Thank you for standing with us and helping make mental health support more accessible for everyone. 🌟

And if you need a little help with plumbing or heating, you know exactly where to go! 😉

Exciting news! We’re launching our very first Ambassador as part of our Ambassador Programme for 2026.

Our mission is to break the stigma around men accessing counselling. Only 20% of service users are men, yet up to 77% experience struggles at some point. Our Ambassador will show that seeking support isn’t weakness – it’s strength.

Through sharing their story, they’ll inspire men to reconnect with joy, resilience, and fulfilment, and help us create a world where mental wellbeing is for everyone.

Want to support our work? Follow, share, or get involved to help more men feel safe to ask for help.

“Life can be tough. Mental health is everything.”

At the Golden Globes, Erin Doherty used her acceptance speech to thank therapists, speaking about the honour of playing a therapist in Adolescence.

Her words struck a chord because they’re true for so many of us. Life can be overwhelming. We all carry things that are hard to name, harder to sit with alone. And sometimes, having someone listen - really listen - can make all the difference.

To every counsellor and therapist: thank you for showing up, day after day, for conversations that change lives.

And if you’re struggling right now, please know this support exists, and you deserve it. Reaching out can be the beginning of feeling a little less alone. 💛

💙 Blue Monday is said to be the “most depressing day of the year” but it’s okay to feel low.

Be kind to yourself today. Struggling doesn’t mean you’re failing, it means something in your life needs attention. 🌱

Even small acts of self-care such as a walk, a chat with someone you trust, or simply pausing to breathe can make a difference.

You’re not alone. 💛
