Keeping our community healthy starts with the small things we do every day.
If you’re feeling under the weather, or just want to help reduce the spread of winter bugs, these simple steps make a real difference:

🧼 Wash your hands regularly
🤧 Catch coughs and sneezes in a tissue
🌬️ Open a window when meeting indoors
🏡 Stay home if you can when unwell
😷 Wear a mask if you need to go out

❄️ Cold Weather Warning – Please Take Extra Care ❄️

With cold weather warnings in place from Tuesday 17 February to Friday 20 February, the NHS is reminding everyone to stay safe in icy conditions, and to look out for those who are elderly and vulnerable.

Slips, trips and falls are far more common during icy or wet weather, especially for older people, where even a minor fall can have a significant impact on health and confidence.

If you need to go out, a few simple precautions can help reduce the risk:
🥾 Wear shoes or boots with good grip
🧤 Keep your hands free and wear gloves
⏰ Avoid going out early morning or late evening when it’s darker and icier
🧥 Dress warmly and wear layers
📱 Carry a mobile phone and let someone know where you’re going

💊 Need Help with Prescription Costs? 💊
Some long‑term conditions may qualify you for free NHS prescriptions — but you must have a Medical Exemption Certificate.

✅ It’s the certificate (not just the condition) that gives you free prescriptions
✅ Without it, you could be charged or fined
✅ Certificates last 5 years + can be renewed
✅ You can still collect meds while waiting for your certificate

Who qualifies?
• Diabetes (not diet‑controlled)
• Epilepsy needing continuous treatment
• Hypothyroidism
• Addison’s disease / hypoadrenalism
• Permanent fistula needing dressings
• Certain disabilities needing help to go out
• Other conditions — check with your GP

How to apply:
Speak to your GP — they’ll provide the form.
Certificates usually arrive within 10 working days.
