Please can we tell you about FLOC, a newly launched Community Interest Company supporting parents and carers of children with SEND (special educational needs and disabilities) across Somerset.

FLOC stands for Freeing Loneliness, Offering Community. We’re currently serving 50+ families through monthly meet-ups in Bruton, Frome, and online.

Our story:
FLOC was founded by Amelia an Katie two Somerset parents frustrated by the loneliness of navigating SEND alone. What started as informal meet-ups has now become a registered CIC with evidence-based programmes helping families move from isolation to connection.

With 1 in 5 children now identified as having SEND and diagnosis waiting times of 1-5 years in Somerset, the need for peer support has never been greater.

What actually happens at a FLOC meetup?
You walk in. Grab a tea. Sit down.
Share if you want. Listen if that’s where you’re at. Leave when you need to.
Peer-led by parents further down the path. Not therapy. Not advice. Just connection.
That’s it. That’s the whole thing.

If you’re raising a child with SEND, this is for you.
Parents. Carers. Partners. Grandparents.
Newly diagnosed. Years in. Or anywhere between.
This is where you find people who get it.

💙 How FLOC Began

Back in May at Bruton Boost set up and held by , something special happened.

We set up a table in the community hall, not really knowing if anyone would come. But they did. Parents and carers who’d been carrying so much alone, finally came together.

The conversations that day reminded us why community matters. Why being seen and heard by people who truly get it can change everything.

What started as one afternoon has grown into monthly meetups, online sessions, and now our first parent wellbeing course.

Every first Monday of the month, we gather at Bruton Community Hall. Sometimes there are tears, sometimes laughter, but we’re in it together.

If you’d told me in May that we’d build this - I’m not sure I would have believed it. But here we are 💙

Thanks to everyone who’s been part of this journey from the beginning. And if you’re just finding us now - welcome.

Next session: Monday 6th October, 7:30pm
Bruton Community Hall, Silver St

💙 Meet the founders

We're Katie and Amelia - SEND parents, just like you.

Katie: Mum to Alex (6, autistic) and Izzy (3). Based in Bruton for 5 years. Started ND Family because I was craving connection with parents who understood the reality - the beautiful chaos, the exhaustion, the fierce advocacy, and everything in between.

Amelia: [Add Amelia's bio - her child/children, her SEND journey, what she brings to ND Family]

We're not therapists or professionals. We're parents with lived experience who believe there's real strength in community.

We created The Reframe Project because we needed it ourselves - 8 weeks focused on parent wellbeing, not strategies for our kids.

This isn't about having all the answers. It's about holding space for each other.

See you soon 💙
