With the rise of cheap online marketplaces (think sites like Temu, Shein and Wish) it’s important to remember that just because you can buy it doesn’t mean it’s safe for your little one.

❓ Did you know ❓

Not all products sold on these platforms, and others like it, meet UK safety standards which could put your little one at risk of:

🌼 Choking hazards from small, detachable parts.
🌼 Toxic substances in toys, clothing, or accessories.
🌼Unsafe designs that don’t comply with UK guidelines.

Here’s how to shop safely this Christmas:
⭐ Buy from reputable brands. If something is cheap and seems to good to be true, it probably is.
⭐ Be extra careful when buying toys for children under 3 as they are at greater risk from dangerous toys
⭐ Look out for cheap copies of well-known brands
⭐ Look for verified reviews from trusted sources
⭐ Trust your instincts and if something seems unsafe, don’t let your child play with it
⭐ Products displaying the UKCA or CE mark comply with UK or EU safety regulations

Your child’s safety matters most. While a bargain may save you a few pounds today, it could come at a much higher cost later. Shop carefully this Christmas and keep your little one safe. Why not take a look at this fact sheet from the Children's Accident Prevention Trust for some top tips....

AND MOST IMPORTANTLY WHY NOT TAKE A FIRST AID CLASS SO THAT YOU CAN RESPOND QUICKLY AND CONFIDENTLY IF THE WORST SHOULD HAPPEN.

If your baby ever cries inconsolably and you can’t calm them, have you checked their toes?! Sounds strange, but it could be a hair tourniquet.

A hair tourniquet, which occurs when a hair or other fibre, such as synthetic thread becomes tightly wrapped around most commonly a toe, and occasionally a finger, ge****ls, or other body parts. The hair or fibre can cut off the circulation to the appendage and damage the nerves, skin tissue and function of that body part.

Hair tourniquets are rare, but it is a medical emergency that needs to be identified and treated promptly to prevent any long-term damage to the tissue.

They are generally seen in infants and toddlers and who can't tell you what's wrong. If your little one becomes very upset or they're not acting themselves it is worth having a look around fingers, toes and ge****ls to make sure they do not have a hair tourniquet.

Look out for swelling, redness or an indentation in the appendage and if you find something seek medical attention immediately.

A really informative and valuable lesson in CPR and defib. It didn't take long and I already feel better equipped to deal with an emergency situation should it arise. Lucy was welcoming, knowledgeable and delivered the class clearly and professionally. I highly recommend it!

I've made a Christmas donation to - could you consider doing the same this Children's Grief Awareness Week?

I feel so fortunate not to need the support of this incredible Milton Keynes charity but also very thankful that it is there for families whose children have lost a parent or sibling.

Please consider donating the price of a cup of coffee to help fund their fantastic work and do check out their socials to see all the amazing work they do.

Scarlet Fever is very infectious and can easily be spread to other people so if you think your child might have scarlet fever please keep them off school or nursery.

It's usually easily treated with antibiotics but as always, if you are concerned about your child, please trust your instincts and get advice from a medical professional as soon as possible if you feel your child is becoming more unwell.

If they are displaying the following symptoms please get medical advice as quickly as possible:

Fever
Severe muscle aches
Localised muscle tenderness
Redness at the site of a wound
Unexplained vomiting or diarrhoea
